UTAD cutting band funding/involvement? (Merged)

Gay joke. The epitome of the lowlife, holier than thou schmuck who can't argue/discuss his point properly or without being condescending.

Thought I cleared this up bub, don't be butt hurt, you started with the douche comment i took it much further. I'm not self righteous. You told me you didn't have cable. I just repeated what you said. It's ok.

Road games I completely understand and AGREE WITH cutting back to save money.

How do you feel about bowl games?? Would the hosting stadium just play the schools fight songs over the loud speakers? Just asking seriously.

Bowl games are a tough subject. Most bowls require you to bring a full band, but will not pay for their expenses. It's one of the reasons schools lose money on bowl trips.

I couldn't imagine the expense of taking a 300 plus band to like Hawaii, good lord that would be insane expense.

So is the part about playing "Down the Field" after scores true? I fail to see how changing that saves any money.

It seems many are missing the point. They aren't cutting the band playing at home games to show more commercials. They aren't doing it to save money. They are cutting the band to play more rock/rap music to fire fans up, like is done at NFL stadiums and is increasingly being done at college stadiums. The fan satisfaction survey done a couple of years ago indicated many fans wanted more of this.

The number of "commercials" on the Jumbotron isn't changing, those sponsorships are part of bigger packages and aren't significant to the UTAD budget on their own.

The fact that the band director has actively fostered a toxic relationship with the athletic department and the last two athletic directors has only made this decision easier for the AD to make.

This isn't the NFL. Colleges should not try to emulate the NFL. College football is what it is today because of the individual traditions of each institution, which includes a live marching band.

There you have it. Pipe down or we'll pipe it in.
I thought the UGA game had a good mix. People were way more fired up with the DJ sequence than living on a prayer. Tbh I didn't know they played living on a prayer.

I agree with you. Many fans don't.

The utad will generate over 40 million in ticket sales for football alone this year. This does not include pay per view, sky boxes, donations, logos or any other monies the ad will get from football including the money from the sec. Don't telle they cannot afford 1 million to travel the band.

The band could certainly spice things up to get fans more involved/excited..

2 sides of the coin. I mean living on a prayer?

I definitely prefer the band over piped in rap and generic rock, but Living on a Prayer is just about the worst song any band could play.

How about down the field? You have to play are fight song

He's saying they will. He's simply discussing their filler songs which apparently include hits that are 5 years old to them but 15 years old to the rest of the world.

Yo the less bon jovi they play is fine with me as long as they play down the field I'm fine

It's on facebook...IT'S TRUE!

EDIT:

Hart was probably sick of hearing Livin' on a Prayer that he issued an ultimatum. The POTS held firm....so did Hart.

Please stop playing living on a prayer whatever it takes..

College bands are known to stagnate their lineups because it's essentially an extracurricular and it's easier to do what they know. If the band director really cared though they'd be engaged in making the format match what fans are requesting. Just my 2 cents.

If the band routinely worked on stands tunes to make them better and more exciting, this would have never happened.

It would be a better idea to get rid of the band leadership..... Sousa. I hear from former Pride members all of the time that he is a huge issue and the reason the band is in the shape it is today.

I'm not gonna lie, when we played at Alabama 2 years ago, they played a ton of piped in music. I thought it detracted from the college environment tremendously but I figured it would hit us soon. I'm not saying that it doesn't get people pumped up because it helps but I think it should be limited to kickoffs and the occasional lengthy timeout.
