"UT's big recruiting weekend appears to be a massive hit with several elite JUCOs"

Funny how some are just a 'glass half empty' type of person. Seems like a sad life.

Isn't that the truth ! ! ! Some people don't have enough common sense to realize that sometimes coaches find "diamonds in the rough" among the JUCO ranks; Kamara, Patterson, and a few years ago Auburn grabbed Cam Newton from the JUCO group. With the gaps we have especially on the line, QB, and at CB... and the problem we have with depth at almost every position... I'd say Coach Pruitt is pretty savvy looking for some short-term help from the JUCO's. I hope he finds what he is looking for.

Awesome input here! Marginalizing Jucos! Aka Kamara! Jeez! Our Coaches should have ask for your input! They obviously don't know what they're doing! These guys certainly don't have offers from Div 1 schools they wouldn't be as desperate as we are. They are smart enough to know they rarely pan out! You ever wonder why although I don't agree our fanbase is ranked #18.

Leonard Little says hi!

Little would have started as a freshman if he’d been eligible. Tennessee placed him at JC and had him redshirt a yr there. They knew what he was a player. These current guys are all people Tennessee didn’t know from Joe Blow 2 months ago. Pruitt thinks they can play.

Pruitt knows the current roster is bleak in several areas thus the term “desperation” was used. Tennessee has 1 healthy upperclassman OL (Richmond) on the entire roster. That’s desperation to me.

Butch actually had a very good eye for talent.

He just couldn't develop them and handcuffed them in his schemes.

Go back and look at our classes under Butch. Tons of projects, tons of wash outs... some of that is coaching, some of that is bad evaluation, some of it is just... padding the recruiting ranking so he'd have something to sell... to say he had a very good eye for talent is laughable... he lucked out with big legacy classes to help recruit in-state guys and had a ton of playing time to offer.

But yeah have fun believing he had a very good eye for talent... his 2013 class wasn't very pretty (understandable) and his 2016/17 were pretty weak, minus a few studs.

Seems to me that if this weekend was so great for these guys why didn't any of them commit? Don't bash me for being a Negavol. I trust CPF and CJP's judgement, CJP is telling players to look elsewhere, and not honoring offers by the prior staff, which is fine, but just see a bunch of noise but no body is committing???? In recruiting 2nd place means nothing!

Would most likely happen tomorrow post basketball game.

I would be curious how JUCO's faired with teams that have finished in top 10 at end of season. In other words is it (like high school) how well teams find fit and development.

There have been plenty of "busts" out of high school for us too.

To answer your question, I would say, yes, it is still a matter of, first, evaluating team needs, finding the requisite talent and developing it. Bill Snyder resurrected the Kansas State program from the grave by making an art form out of mining the JUCO ranks, sometimes for almost half of his recruiting classes back in the 1990s.

The author made an interesting point, however. Instead of simply scouring the JUCO ranks across the country for specific positional needs, Pruitt is targeting a group of highly touted prospects from the same program. If this is a tight-knit bunch of guys, it could be a true grand slam. In any event, we are desperately in need of an upgrade in offensive line talent, so, if nothing else, landing a couple of these “big uglies” will, hopefully, provide depth in the rotation.

It's called determination. Pruit wants us contending immediately. He doesn't make excuses. He puts in work

You only get the new guy bump one or two recruiting cycles. A winning season in year one gives the new coach an extra year to get things rolling. Jucos in year one that can fill holes could be huge.

Oh great. Now we have the 20:20 hindset definition of not one but TWO types of JUCO player. The Guaranteed and the Unknown. Please don't withhold the abundance of your knowledge from us. Please keep a running definition of where each one stands according to your clairvoyant skills.

Charlie Garner, Dale Carter,l.Little, Gibril Wilson, Patterson,, and many others have had great VOL Careers and NFL as well. You just gotta make sure they the system and are coached up. This is the route we must go to contend. Its not a complete rebuild so why not try to get some fillins and contend?

Pretty quick with the JUCO stats, but for comparison, I wonder what percentage of HS players end up as starters?

Listen.... if we’re still heavily recruiting JUCOs a year from now, I’ll be concerned.

As is, this staff was dealt unchartered territory (early signing period) and a roster with holes. I trust everything they do until they give me a reason to otherwise.

Aight?

The key word being "heavily". I see nothing wrong with recruiting JUCOs to fill key areas of need created by attrition. Not sure it will decrease that much next year, but after several years, we should not have to go the JUCO route for many players.
