"UT's big recruiting weekend appears to be a massive hit with several elite JUCOs"

The guy is gone. Why all the crap about a player who gave his all for Tennessee. We would have been even worse without him. Grow up.

He is pretty much an indictment of the recruiting and player development under the old coach. You read too much into it with your outrage at my post but you can give him a VFL participation trophy if you want.

You do know that 2013 was his first year and he had little to no time to put together a class right?

He was able to recruit:
Jaylen Reeves-Maybin
Josh Dobbs
Cam Sutton
Marquez North
Which all turned out pretty nice for us.

He doesn't have a good eye for talent?
Josh Dobbs
Cameron Sutton
John Kelly
All would have something to say about that.

You look at the potential candidates
Riley Ferguson
Tim Jordan
Shawn Shamburger
Josh Palmer

even throw in Will McBride and Sheriron Jones(time will tell)

He has an eye for talent and to say that he doesn't is laughable. I'll respectfully disagree with you on that.:hi:

So far the proof of the big time players being wash outs we're more than likely because of coaching.

Not sure why you're bringing up names like Palmer, Jordan, McBride, S. Jones etc. How many drops did Palmer have this year? And the other guys are unproven. Seems illogical to count them among the "potential candidates" for big-time players if you're trying to defend Jones' "great eye for talent" - you could list anyone from the '16-'17 class and do the same.

It seems like Jones had a 10-20% chance of finding a stud with his recruits that weren't highly coveted - many guys like Kelly (M St/Michigan wanted him), Hurd, North (top 100 player), Malone (5*), Smith (#1 OT), Kamara (#2 JUCO), JRM (top 250 player, all-state LB with offer from OSU), Sutton (Auburn really wanted him, offers from UF & Clemson) etc were coveted by elite schools and their talent was obvious even if their rating didn't reflect it. Again Jones lucked out with quantity more than quality, that should be obvious by how much attrition we had and how big his classes were. You can't quantity over quality unless you have tons of playing time to offer and/or a roster with a high attrition rate, something Jones had from 13-15. Dobbs was perhaps Jones luckiest recruit (minus maybe Robertson/Barnett - even then he had legacy players helping recruit for him) and that was a late snag due in large part to our aeronautics program. He fit the "system" (whatever that was) better than any QB we had (Peterman, Ferg, Jones, Dormady etc), mostly due to the fact that he was an elite scrambler that could create with his legs on busted plays. Ferg was a great QB who had issues between the noggin, hence the reason no major P5 schools went after him once he transferred & went to JUCO.

and at least he's doing something about it. He knows even if he got 3 or 4 5 star OL this year no way in hell they are SEC ready. It's not "desperate" it called being resourceful and not throwing away 2018 before starting... I think I trust his talent eye until he proves me wrong.

He wants to win yesterday. That’s what we hired.

Linebackers who can run fast.. Tennessee is woefully thin at LB to begin with, but when speed is brought in to the equation, there is none this roster r now.. Vols need speed at LB immediately.
2nd thing Vols need is mean players.. I'm sorry but I need to see some angry players, who will stop, stoop) at nothing to win.. If that means inflicting violence upon rivals, so be .. I don't care if we never win another civitan, citizenship, eagle scout, big buddies, or general nice guy award ever again.. I want hard core maniacs who will do whatever is needed to win.. If they hold baby ducks underwater, kick puppies, or refuse to sign autographs for kids I DONT CARE..

I do not care where they come from..I just want us to get some who will know the difference in playing hurt and being injured. Get some heart.

Don't hold back

WELL!......After all this debate. Jucos not Jucos! If I were one of the Jucos here. ALL OF WHICH WE NEED! And if were reading this debate. I'd be thinking theae fans are fickle and full of s@#t. Gonna go with CJP on this including Mays and everyone else. I'll pay attention to the ones we GET! Not the ones we DON'T!Got alot of players coming back. Great chance to see if good coaching and a better strategy and philosophy make a difference. GO BIG ORANGE!

No because they are signing Wednesday....

I don't know about that, with all the recruits that were in, you would think that one or two would have committed by now if they were going to sign????
I don't want to sound negative but all that we have seen so far is one guy "recommitting" and the loss of a QB and the cutting loose of another. This is worrisome for sure! Looks like the best we can hope for is that some of these guys don't sign this week and maybe the staff can sway them by February.

i.e.

Who's kidding who -- these Jucos we're looking at are more than just Jucos! If I were a Juco and Tennessee was looking at me, I'd jump all overit with Tenn on 12/20, as being here is better than somewhere else. And Tennessee needs some ready-guys! And if we're paying attention like we should be, forget the crazy fans who don't see it right. I'll trust CJP; shucks he might even surprise us by stealing Mays back (from GA or Clems). But I'm focusing on the 2017 players who will return, and on the recruits we sign who want to be here under CJP, not the ones who want to go elsewhere. What better chance in the past 5 years, than now, to see if better coaching and this "focus on the ones we get" philosophy can get us a a healthy roster and nearer to a real championship. GO BIG ORANGE!

Are we worried no commits as of yet?

Absolutely not. From listening to guys like Mathews, Hubbs and Callahan, I think we sign 10-12 during early signing this week and then add another 9-10 in February. And I’d wager we wind up with a better class, with more legit SEC level players this year than at any point in time under Sgt Carter. It won’t take us signing 30+ players to get a top 10 class (due to volume/number of players) under Pruitt like it did Jones imho.
