‘23 VA ATH Cameron Seldon (Tennessee Commit)

I have wondered about this. So if a kid wants to flip, how does that affect the NIl deal? If that’s the case and flips will be less of a thing, then the whole well it’s only March or only August thing is out the window. That makes recruiting more difficult imo.
It all depends on where the kid even is.

Guys like Nico are locked in, because CA allows deals. He's already signed his NiL rights away.

MOST states don't allow such, so there cannot be an actual signed contract (unless they're going to forego their SR year, I suppose). Like I mentioned with FM and John Ruiz's failing business - I'd suspect it would have to be a "handshake deal" until he becomes a CFB SA. Nothing guaranteed till they sign with the school.

Pretty good week with Weathersby and Conyer. Soon to be Vols in Sham, Seldon, and Smith. CB coming in for Leacock who is underrated. Any insight on Stanton Ramil? He would be a huge pickup

Think he’s with the good guys.

Wanted to say it sucks that FM didn’t pick us, and the figure that was thrown out isn’t accurate but it’s somewhat close. We made a great offer with other intangibles, he just didn’t pick us.

NIL contracts can’t contain language specific to a school. That counts as pay-to-play, which is still illegal.
While I agree - IF (a big if) a kid can even sign an NiL deal before becoming an SA...

I'd imagine some are where your earning is based on showing up to events. So, say you have to be in Knoxville on a Friday at 5 PM (because that is where the business and sub-client is located) in the Fall. It's not an inducement, but it's pretty clear you won't get paid being elsewhere. Jmo

He loved his Michigan St visit but don’t see a Southern kid going that far north when he has great SEC offers

And with the portal, they can always get better deals if they preform well at a school.
That's the scarier part if a collective doesn't purchase the NIL rights for multiple years. I do think many are doing that. Iirc Nico's is for 3-4 years, so he can't sign another nil contract.

Not legal philosophy, but imo both parties should be allowed some level of protections.

Yep, thats exactly right. The decommit wouldn't be the trigger, it would be the missed availability for area-specific appearances. And there are now several states where HS students can sign NIL deals.

I think I have finally figured out what is different with me. I don’t get hurt because I don’t look at it the same as some. Someone said yesterday they couldn’t have confidence any more. I never have confidence just varying degrees of hope. So if they pick someone else I just move on to the next one although I am disappointed. But some get “hurt” when someone with info leads them to believe that TN will get the commitment. And the bigger the commitment, the bigger the hurt. So that’s why they jump on AV, AP, anyone that tells what they have been told. It’s because they made them feel confident, and they get hurt because of it.
Well said!

This is ultimately a form of entertainment. Can't take it too seriously like losing a ballgame or getting excited for a movie or album, only to be let down. Should never invest too much emotion into entertainment. More important things in life to get angry or sad over. This is supposed to be fun, after all.

After this week:

For whatever reason Ethan Davis is populating as zero. Using his 247 Composite rating of .9588, we'll assign him 25pts (in between Herring's 26.58 and Seldon's 24.52).

Grand total: 250.76, good for 4th nationally barring other teams action this week.

They're trying to fix it (Ethan Davis glitch).

Fwiw that's 7 bluechips, which is as many HS bluechips as we had all of last year. And I believe 3 top-100 composite players after 0 last year.

Not that last year was a great bar (Hype had precisely zero relationships built), but our improvement is SIGNIFICANT with probably 10+ more guys to add. Shoot, Bradley alone gives us our 2nd 5* and 8th bluechip.

Just imagine once we win more on the field 😎
