Vacation / Travel

Thank you for the suggestions! I will look into those spots. My wife was doing some research last night and mentioned the Jacks Shack place as a popular spot. We've planned one excursion so far in the Dominican where we will be swimming in caves. It looks like a lot of fun and has a very high rating. We leave in a just over a month.

No problem, go to Jacks if you want a more quiet local experience, go the the cruise port area if you want more of a party atmosphere. And as the other poster mentioned Topher is a blast!

I haven't swam in caves in Dominican but I did that in Belize and I'll be doing it again in Mexico next month. They call them cenotes in Mexico. You should enjoy it, cave tubing in Belize is one of the coolest things I've ever done.

Yeah it looks like it will be a pretty good excursion. We wanted to the cave swimming on our honeymoon a couple of years ago in Mexico, but for some reason it didn't work out. We were in Playa del Carmen, where are you headed?

We're headed to Playa. We've been there a couple times off a cruise ship but just passed through, didn't have much time there. Looks like a cool little town so we wanted to spend a week there.

I loved it down there. I would say it's the best vacation I've ever been on, and not just for the obvious reasons of it being my honeymoon. We stayed at the Grand Sunset Princess in Playa in the Laguna Villa section. It was all inclusive, we had our own private pool and bar that was shared with about 20 other villas, real low key, we also had an outdoor shower for our room. There were probably 5 other pools that were insane, something you would see on mid 90's MTV spring break. I felt like I need a penicillin shot after I got out. We only went over there for the entertainment. I don't know how much you drink, but a lot of people had the massive bubba keg cups and since it was all inclusive they would fill the whole thing up.

The only negative I would say of Playa itself is how aggressive people were trying to sell you things downtown. It wears you out. Watch your wallet as well, I had a 12 yo kid try and pick pocket me.

We're staying at the Occidental Grand Xcaret. Thanks for the heads up on aggressive selling. We'll actually probably only be down town Playa one day, unless we really like it and want to squeeze in another day. Going deep sea fishing one day, Xcaret Park one day, and alot of lounging around the resort pools and beach.

Thank you! My brother is ready for us to start saving toward a house lol.

I love TBay. If I didn't do what I do, I would still be there. Trust me on this...next time you guys go to the beach there around the 4th..go to the beach spots I told you about the other day to see the fireworks. The Clearwater show at Coachman is great, but it just isn't as good a spot as the spots I told you about. You can see the St Pete beach, Clearwater, Seminole, Indian Rocks, Madeira, Gulfport and the Reddington shows all from the jetty at the end of Pass a Grille beach looking north, plus there are literally thousands upon thousands of heavy spenders on quality booms setting the off on the beaches....The absolute most awesome way to watch the fireworks is from a boat a few hundred yards offshore about midway up the peninsula. Check about reserving a spot on a charter or party boat next year..it'll cost you, but you'll never forget it. I'm glad you guys had fun.

I remember looking at that place, and thinking how awesome it looked. Should be a wonderful week.

I appreciate it so much. We really do love it here. We snagged an older beach house at Belleair shores for a good price. It was basically like having our own private beach. We'd get a dozen walkers, and half dozen people doing water activities each day but that's it.

I really enjoyed Clearwater. I want to go back during the fall when it's not as crowded.

Stay down around Indian rocks/shores. You can be to CW in 10 mins but no crowds.

We drove down there one day, went all the way to Sarasota, just looking around. It's all pretty awesome yo me.

We are headed to Anna Maria Island next Sat for one week vacation. Any restaurant/bar recommendations there would be appreciated.

We mostly went to Honeymoon Island (My daughter even got married on HI) We love the wild nature of it, but we usually went to IR or BB/Sand Key at sunset to walk just because it was closest to us. If we wanted to do a beach day and weren't in the mood for HIs wildness, we went to Pass-a-Grille just below the Don, or Mad beach.

I want to go back and stay in the little town where honeymoon island is. We went there one day, and we fell in love. Had I went the first of the week, we'd probably spent most of our time there.

Dunedin and Safety Harbor on the bay side of Pinellas are my two favorite communities. Did you like Honeymoon Island as much as I said you would?
