Vacation / Travel

We leave for Hawaii in 7 days. It's going to be a long week.

I booked this little snorkel trip...

What'a everyone's experience with checking bags? I always go super light but this go around calls for souvenirs. Is it time consuming? Anyone lost baggage before?

Flying in for this last Christmas my son and his girlfriend had their luggage locks cut, bag contents tossed and a couple of presents obviously unwrapped an sloppily "rewrapped". We travel a lot and that's the first time.

If your worried about it, just find where to box up your souvenirs and send them home UPS. That way you won't be worried about what you get not fitting in the luggage. For example, we've done that with a few framed art prints from a trips to Santa Fe and Key West.

It's just not worth worrying about. I do it all the time and I've maybe had bags not arrive on time twice. Both times they were hand delivered that same night.

I'm to the point that I'd rather check everything just so I don't have to deal with stuffing something on the plane.

Im the opposite I hate having to check baggage and wait for it at the claim. I like packing light and being able to motor!

Also it sounds like its getting bad in Cancun, Playa, Cozumel with the explosives on the ferries. Glad I went when I did!

Depending on the airport it can be quick to get your bag or a lifetime want you land

Yeah, I’m taking the whole family down for Spring Break next week. We’re staying at a resort on the outskirts of Playa. We’ve been planning the trip for a long time.

My wife and I have gone down there a couple of times without the kids and stayed at different resorts up and down the coast. We have always had a great time. Once you get on site of the resorts, you are pretty isolated/safe.

We went last year and took one of those ferries to Cozumel. Yikes.

We have talked about taking the family to Xel-Ha which is a cool “natural” water park down the coast. I hope nobody wants to tour around Playa del Carmen, though, because I wouldn’t feel comfortable and I don’t want to freak out my kids.

Same, get off the plane and go.

We are seeing more and more luggage being shipped as well. Ground service is almost always cheaper in the continental US. Shipping abroad is probably not worth it though, because of the air service.

Well be careful. Sucks you can't swing over to Cozumel I love tooling around on the island. I wanted to go over to the mainland next time and see the Ruins. Oh well.

See, I'm too much of a control freak to not do it. I vacuum seal all my stuff and have always gotten away with exceeding weight limits. I can fit about a month's worth of stuff in a carry-on.

It turned out that the resort we went to (Azul Fives) was on the outskirts of Playa del Carmen. We went ahead and did an excursion to Xel-Ha one day and had no problems. We did not do any trips to downtown Playa this time, though.

We had a great time.

When we were going through customs in Cancun, we saw some guys in Tennessee gear and gave them a “Go Vols”. Later, I noticed the huge guy was wearing football gear with #97 on it. I encountered the man, the legend, Paul Bain, on his way to spring break.

Vibes I got last time there and (up to now) stateside is that American gringos still think it's nuts.

Thanks, "Narcos."

Warming up to Euros though.

Apparently it’s one of the top travel destinations nations. Too bad. I like relatively untouched travel places.

Depends where you go. Cartagena and Bogota are crawling but Santa Marta, Cali, Baranquilla, and Medellin (outside Poblado) is very much untouched.

Still way behind Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

I take your word for it and I I hope you’re area goes untouched. I was reading recently that Columbia is near and u flux of visitors. I know how that goes and it’s not good. I hope your travels are great and relatively untouched.

Have fun my man. I look forward to putting you down later.
