Vacation / Travel

Just booked an Alaskan cruise on the Norwegian Bliss for next year over the 4th of July.

One (hyphened) word. Go-carts.

30 mph through icebergs. :)

Any backpackers in here? My friends and I are heading to Colombia in March and, although most of us have been before, it was mostly city crawling save a few retreats, to which we either drove or hiked less than a couple of miles. This time around, we're doing a 5 day trek from Santa Marta to the Lost City. I haven't done this intense of a hike in years and it's looking like 9 miles a day.

Any tips?

Do not skimp on the backpack and shoes. Replace your water filter if it is old.

Enjoy the Chicas and blow. 😬

I just got a new 50L backpack last week and new shoes last month. They're providing filtered water.

As for the other, well... yeah.

Yes. No. The guide was very specific about what we need to bring and what will be carried for us.
Easy day. Buy good socks (Darn Tough brand is phenomenal), good underwear, medications, and some extra snacks. Make sure to break in your boots prior to the trek and layer clothing as appropriate for the climate. Elevation not an issue up there and honestly 5 days at 9 miles per day is pretty tame. Just take it very slow and enjoy the scenery.

Oh, I've got the quick dry head to toe. Wool socks all the way.

We might go with 4 days and intensify it a little bit because we're meeting up with friends in Cartagena.

Bug spray and mosquito netting.

What island?

To clarify we’re going a on cruise to the Bahamas. We go into Half Moon Cay, which is really beautiful and just relaxing. We also go into Nassau, I’ve been there a few times, so it’s not too exciting. However, the weather looks nice and I’m just looking forward to getting on the ocean with a drink in my hand.

Headed to the Bahamas on Monday. Can’t f-ing wait.

Have a great time!

I'm going to Mayaguana on the last day of Feb for 10 days of bonefishing. I've been to other Bahamian islands, but this is my first time to Mayaguana.

That’s great, hope you have an awesome time.

thanks for the feedback & recommendations. We are really looking forward to going there.

Go to Camden, 30 miles or so south of Acadia, it has a good state park with great views of the seaside town and islands in the sound. Also for go to the Lobster Pound on the Atlantic hwy north of Camden. That time of the year the moose may still be in the rut, so I would steer clear of any close encounters. Acadia is a must see. You can take a ferry to Newfoundland or Nova Scotia, two things I wish we would have had time to do. As someone else pointed out go to Baxter state park if you can, just know it is a very long drive on backroads. The beaches are rock so be aware of that.

Real good boots and socks and buy good insoles for them. Make sure you have a water filter that is .02 micron or smaller.
