Vacation / Travel

Rented an RV and spent 4 days at a state park just across the border in GA. Based on this trip we may own one in a year or so. Going to rent some different models to see what we like

Anyone ever been to Maine? I'm flying up to NYC and renting a car. I want to drive up to Maine and see a few lighthouses and whatever else I can find. Recommendations?

What time of year are you going and for how long? I would highly recommend Baxter State Park (see Baxter State Park – Welcome to a Magnificent Obsession.), which is in north-central Maine and, among other things, the location of Mount Katahdin, the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.

Highly recommend RVing.

It was such a good trip for our first attempt. My sister-in-law and her husband have done it for years and we joined them. My boys couldn't have smiled more and even a few storms and many mosquitoes didn't stop them. Talked long term about working it into our retirement planning too

We’ve talked about being campground hosts when we retire.

Wish we would have gotten into it when the kids were young.

They talked about the same. He's federal LE and wants to move into something less dangerous and more outdoors. They have no kids

I do wonder how hard it will be in a few years to pull the kids away and go for a whole weekend. Guess we'll cross that bridge eventually

We were right across the FL/GA line at crooked River State Park. St Mary's, GA I think

No way I would go to Maine without visiting Acadia National Park and vicinity. It has had a place on our bucket list for a long time.

Are you talking about one your pull or drive like a coach? I think you need special permit to drive a coach

Nope, not a personal use one. There are a few states that require a non commercial class A license if your pulling a trailer with a total GCVWR of 26,000lbs or more. But if you live in a state without that requirement your good.

The coachs are super nice... but burn a ton of fuel

Go to Camden on the coast, it has a really nice state park with a 880 foot cliff that offers views of the sound. Also try the Lobster Pound just outside of town to the north. It has a large lighthouse right in town. It's about an hour south of Acadia. Penobscot bay is the name of the inlet.

Ok, sounds neat. I was thinking of making the drive all the way up to Acadia NP.

I'm flying up on the 30th of this month, and I'm only going to be up there for a week.
