If you want to do some hiking without the people that hit Cade's Cove consider Greenbrier. It's out 73/321 heading toward Pittman Center and Cosby. We are renting a cabin in Sevierville from 12/30 - 1/3 for my mom’s 75th birthday. Haven’t been to Gatlinburg area in over 20 years. Need some suggestions on things to do/places to eat in the area. Thanks fam!
Going to San Diego in January. Any recommendations on what do/where to eat?
What about the moonshine tasting? Anyone done it?
Where are you staying? I am familiar with North County much more than the city of San Diego, but if you like beer there are plenty of good recommendations. Stone Brewing at Liberty Station is a cool spot to grab a bite. Fathom Bistro, Bait & Tackle is a cool dive place on Shelter Island. La Jolla is a good spot to walk around, lots of restaurants. The Grill at Torrey Pines is a good spot for lunch. Ocean Beach - South Beach Bar & Grille for fish tacos, Pizza Port for pizza and brews and Hodad's for burgers.
Gatlinburg has the tasting places and Sky Bridge. Lot easier to get around, once you find parking, than Pigeon Forge.Eh, it's something to do. More of a tourist trap type of thing, but the entire town of Pigeon Forge is like one big tourist trap, lol. It's not really moonshine though, at least the way I know moonshine. I'm not sure of the costs of the tastings.
There's lots of good golf in the area, if it's warm enough when you come. TN weather is tricky, so it could easily be in the 50's-60's in the middle of winter and you have your AC on. Then it'll be in the 20's a couple days later.
Hiking the area is terrific as well. There's the new Skybridge that was put up a few years ago. I haven't done it yet, but we don't go to Pigeon Forge but maybe once or twice a year. My wife isn't a big fan of the area.
A few in door water parks as well. The Wilderness of the Smokey's indoor water park is really good if you have kids and they want to go swimming for a day. Pretty cheap day passes.
Also, if you have kids, the dinner shows are fun to go to. A little pricey, but you're paying more for the show than the food, and the kids love it.
This place looks tastyThis place has great food. Smith & Son Corner Kitchen We went there last Saturday, and got on the wait list. Headed up to the bar to see if there were any seats open and ended up just eating at the bar. Got a text on our way back to our apartment that our table was ready. lol
Actually staying in Oceanside. We wanted to see LA for a day or two as well, so that was a good place in the middle.
What's the best fish tacos in town?
Thinking of doing a whale watching tour. Any recommendations there?
Have you done the Safari Park?
Here's a few thoughts:
I'd go to "Little Italy" for food. Lots of good restaurants there. Parking in Little Italy is a bit difficult. Also, take in the sunset at Hotel del Coronado with a beverage and a wonderful view. If you're a golfer, I wouldn't pass up the chance to play Torrey Pines, it's a public coarse. And if you have a local San Diego county contact, they may be able to get you on at "resident" rates. If someone needs a "shopping" break I'd send them to the UTC outdoor mall. (one of my sister-in-laws works at Ben Bridge there).
Of course the zoo and Balboa park are also good places to visit.
Most of my wife's family live in the San Diego area.
