Just out of curiosity, do you wear a mask when you are around others so that you can't infect them?Ain't a big fan, they usually have no mask. We can still transmit and I, personally, have a high risk individual living with me. I would feel horrid knowing that I brought the virus home after taking all the precautions and this person passed away with that. That's why I have problems. We got vaccinated to go to school here in the south, and now it's a independence thing? I didn't have that when I got the shots before going to school. Mom told me, you getting these, and that's it. End of story. Maybe this country boy here still remembers, you help your neighbor, you pull over and help change a tire, you pay that extra dollar for the person in front of you that couldn't afford it. I guess my "Old Days" are different then most. Guess I think a simple thing to help someone isn't a attack on my freedom. It's just being nice to someone that is dealing with things different than me.
Yes, I wear a mask into places.
Only into places, but not at home around your high risk family member?
The masks are to keep the individual wearing it from spreading Covid but they’re rather ineffective in preventing you from catching it from someone unmasked, so we’ve been told.
A person can be vaxxed, be Covid positive with no symptoms at all and not know they are spreading the virus unless frequently tested. That person, under the assumption they are safe being vaxxed, doesn’t wear a mask anymore and is going around infecting folks.
A person who’s had Covid and recovered, who likely had symptoms and stayed home during recovery because they felt like crap, now has natural immunity after recovery and isn’t going around spreading Covid even if not masked.
How exactly are the Covid shots and masks, that you don’t wear at home, helping you protect your family member when you yourself could actually have Covid and not know, unless testing daily, just because you leave the house and have interactions with both vaxxed and non-vaxxed people?
It’s probably much, much safer for your family member if you don’t ever leave your house because you could unknowingly bring Covid back to them.
Man, that was a lot of typing for nothing. I wear a mask when I go out to help prevent, yes. I'm also vaxxed. I get I can still bring it back, but I do have to go get things. I usually never leave the house for frivolous things. Wearing masks has shown protection, whether you wanna believe it or not. Getting vaccinated would help if everyone did it, whether you wanna believe it. I know FB has been your wealth of knowledge on this particular subject. I'll listen to people that are actually educated on it.
I usually don’t engage in the mask debate because most don’t wear them correctly anyway but the point of the mask is predominantly to protect others from yourself. People in the operating room are not wearing masks to protect themselves from the patients. It’s to protect the patients from potential cross contamination. Most of the time the patients are not wearing a mask.
That’s also why I usually don’t engage those who say things like “if you’re vaccinated then why are you wearing a mask?” The question starts from a false understanding of what the mask is really for.
Not to be argumentative, but the "operating room" analogy is actually a terrible one. The only good surgical masks do is keep nasty crap from splattering on the surgeon's face. Masks have CLEARLY been shown not to reduce wound infections/contamination.I usually don’t engage in the mask debate because most don’t wear them correctly anyway but the point of the mask is predominantly to protect others from yourself. That’s cool. Let’s go with Korea where when someone gets a cold they put on a mask to protect others. While everyone else walks around without one.Not to be argumentative, but the "operating room" analogy is actually a terrible one. My surgical friends alerted me to these points and studies early last year.

The koreans, and most "northern" asians, take hygiene very seriously. Separate rooms for crapping vs washing, no outside shoes inside. It goes well beyond masks. Most of the recent covid mask studies dont actually control for mask usage only. That’s cool. Let’s go with Korea where when someone gets a cold they put on a mask to protect others. Studies are clear and indisputable. The proper mask worn properly is very effective at preventing the spread of disease.
We can’t get people to wash their hands properly so the masks are pretty much a waste of time.
Your last sentence kinda goes against the one directly before it.Do not disagree with that statement at all. So if everyone wore one, we would all be protecting each other. Instead of arguing on forums about it, actually do something to improve the condition. I don't get why it's so hard, but ma freedums and what not.
