I looked. You did in Tennessee till 08. A bill to put it back on failed in 19 but is up for consideration again in 22.Texas does the same thing. You don’t have to affiliate with a party at registration but you have to declare a primary you’re voting in. In Texas reason is you can’t cross party vote in any possible primary runoff which might be needed before the general.

In Florida you have to be in the party to vote in their primary. As an independent, I don't partake in primaries for democrat or republican.I think some states actually require you to declare a party and vote their primary every election. TN just says you have to show up at the primary and declare as you show up to vote.
