Vaccine Passport

The White House is working on a COVID-19 vaccine passport initiative that could be required for travel, sporting events and even eating out, reports The Washington Post.

The report comes as major U.S. airlines and nearly 30 travel and labor groups are pushing President Joe Biden to develop a standardized, government-backed credential to "accelerate safe economic activity and recovery."

"The U.S. must be a leader in this development," the groups wrote in a letter to COVID-19 Recovery Team Coordinator Jeff Zients on Monday. "The current diverse and fragmented digital health credentials used to implement different countries' air travel testing requirements risk causing confusion, reducing compliance, and increasing fraud."

Zients and the Department of Health and Human Services are leading the effort, according to sources who spoke with the Post. The White House declined to answer questions about the initiative and instead directed the news outlet to public statements made by Zients and other officials this month on the topic.

"Our role is to help ensure that any solutions in this area should be simple, free, open source, accessible to people both digitally and on paper, and designed from the start to protect people’s privacy," Zients said at a March 12 briefing.

The initiative has presented multiple challenges for the administration, including data privacy issues and healthcare equity. Additionally, at least 17 other initiatives are already underway.

The Vaccine Credential Initiative, a collaboration between tech and health care companies to develop technology that would store a secure copy of an individual’s vaccination record in a digital wallet on a person’s smartphone, is already in the works.

"The busboy, the janitor, the waiter that works at a restaurant, wants to be surrounded by employees that are going back to work safely - and wants to have the patrons ideally be safe as well," Brian Anderson, a physician at Mitre, a nonprofit company that runs federally funded research centers, who is helping lead the initiative, told the Post.

"Creating an environment for those vulnerable populations to get back to work safely - and to know that the people coming back to their business are ‘safe,’ and vaccinated - would be a great scenario."
I don't travel or eat out i still wont be getting the COVID-19 vaccination

Remember all the heartache Trump took for his downplaying. He could have screamed impending doom and watched the nation fold. There is a psychological element to leading and even when the chips are down, you dont say "impending doom".. Efffin idiot.
They are scared they may lose their control over us

No plan? Operation Warpspeed and such as shutting down travel? This is the USG by the way, so realize that in your context of effectiveness.
Warp speed was much later and travel was turned down not stopped. He had the opportunity to lead and abdicated to Fauci/Birx.

And liberals call Trump a dictator. Trump didn’t try to mandate everything at the Federal level like Biden. He did use EOs but Biden, who claimed he could get Republican buy in, isn’t even trying to work with Congress. The good news is this is how this whole thing is going to fall apart. We are watching the beginning of the end. Hopefully something better will rise from the ashes.

Not idiotic but he should have kept telling everyone to live normal especially after we knew this wasn’t that big of a deal to 99% of us. He should have never let Fauci have a microphone
Just be glad the little prick decided to go full on and develop a vaccine, otherwise we might be f'd right now. Between Fauci and Cuomo I can't decide which one did more damage to the human race while they were f'ing themselves with their own thumbs and bragging about how great they are.

He absolutely did. He had a chance to lead with a national audience and chose to give up the stage

Gotcha. I agree he did as well. Not sure how a non medical President could handle that..obviously other opinion, which is just another opinion. The Hydroxy... and other claims and he was attacked by media "you aint no doctor" claims.

Tough spot for any Prez, but would not consider his response idiotic.

Required by who?

Exactly?

See, typical right wing bad writing and inference. The federal government won't require you to have a vaccine note to go to a restaurant. The restaurant might.

You got a problem with private businesses setting their rules?

You know all those "liability messages" we see upon entering businesses? Those are laws, not business rules. If I enter and contact COVID, the business is not liable. So a patron is now reponsible for bringing it?

Why? The vaccine doesn't keep someone from getting it, it supposedly keeps it from being so severe. So you want to be in a restaurant with 100% vaccinated customers and possibly 80% asymptomatic?

Or would you rather someone know they had it and stayed home?

And the restaurant has the ability to go out of business if their clientele doesn't like being told what to do and quits patronizing them. It's a free choice all around.

It would be interesting experiment to see two successful businesses next door to one another and with opposite rules and see how they do.
Just what we need, anther subdivision.

You are missing the point. The OP is quoting some right wing revision of the news report to say the vaccine passport could be "required" to travel, eat at a restaurant, etc.

The OP implies, as does the cut and paste blog entry, that the government will do the requiring. And if you look at the posts following OP, it is clear that number of the usual posters on such things either are too dumb to see how they are being duped, or are all too willing to be duped.

Yea, this is crazy talk. Government overstepping, pfffttt.

So let me see if I have this right ... After all the crying and complaining that voter ID is somehow racist and just unAmerican , it’s actually going to be the Dems that come up with and try to implement the platform that without a doubt in its final form , be a voter ID among other things ? That’s going to be priceless . 😂
