Vandy's a good team and coached by a good coach

It took 1 year when they hired a great coach, started building first class facilitys and finally treated football seriously! How long will it take Tennessee football to be relevant again?

Tennessee football is still relevant even at the worse of times. We have helped to build the most powerful conference in the NCAA. All the while you were riding our coattails. And by the way look at recruiting this year to find the relevancy of Tennessee football. We have gone through years of "rebuilding" (more like demolition) and are back in the national spotlight week after week in recruiting. Your school will now be seen as a stepping stone for up and coming coaches for years to come. :post-4-1090547912:

I cannot deny the "success" Vandy has enjoyed since Franklin has been there.

I think it is telling that the 'Dores celebrate two years of performance that until very recently, would be considered a failure at Tennessee.

Franklin is four games over .500 in two and half seasons, and VU fans are strutting around like their poop is odor free.

Enjoy it. The planets have aligned and the improbable has happened. VU is at their apex at the same time we are in the gutter. And so, we have seen what has happened.

I take great comfort in knowing that this too will pass. In the overall context of college football history, and in the the history of the "rivalry," it will be nothing more than a fart in a whirlwind.

What Franklin has done at Vandy will land him a sweet gig at a big school. He deserves credit for what he's done at Vandy.. That game will be Vandy -3 , -2 or pick um. I've watched them play a few games. They play less sloppy then we do. Anyone not wearing orange tented glasses would favor Vandy in that game. This is where our program is right now get over it..

We may spot them the ball 4 times deep inside our own territory like Florida did, but I doubt it.

And if we don't, we will beat them. They are much better than they used to be, but nowhere near the caliber of bammer, Mizzou or Auburn. Or USCe, for that matter....

I don't know if some posters on here really believe what they write, or are just trying to agitate.

Their logic: Gus has a better record that Butch in his first year so Gus is a much better coach.

Of course (in their reasoning), the talent pool has absolutely nothing to do with it. By this same reasoning, poor ole Nick Saban is a terrible coach because he was 6 - 6 during his first year at 'Bama and lost to Louisana Monroe. Nick also played a much weaker schedule than Butch faced this year...but of course SOS has nothing to do with it either.

What a simple world they must live in.

This is the poster child post for incredible tomfoolery.

Find me a single game in Saban's first year at Bamer where his team looked like a division 3 team - much less the 4 or so times we have looked like one this year, including the last 3 games.
That Bamer team never lost by more than 7 points - even against the eventual national champs.

Louisiana-Monroe

however UT has never looked like a D3 team and Butch is not Saban

If giving up 55 points in Neyland to a team that threw the ball 7 times does not look like Division 3 it has got to be incredibly close.

Actually, the term "grease fire" seems more appropriate.

It just is what it is though. We knew year one was going to look ugly at times; especially after all we've been through. I'm actually a little surprised that we haven't had a "Louisiana-Monroe" game somewhere.

Well that could still happen at Ky even though Ky isn't as bad as they were last year. They've been fairly competitive against the bad to average teams.

And that Bammer team also lost to La-Monroe. At home. Let that sink in.

Yes, but that same Bama team hammered UT...which represented the SEC East in Atlanta. Let that sink in.

And that was their apex. They lost every game thereafter except their bowl game and finished 7-6. Kind of like UT has done with the win against South Carolina who could represent the SEC East in Atlanta. Let that sink in.

Which illustrates the point I've been making since July. I'm year 1 there's usually at least one surprising win and at least one complete disaster. It's just the way of the coaching change.

True. Not ignoring it. it was a terrible loss, obviously much worse then our squeaking by South Alabama.

My point, though, is that 6-6 for 2007 Alabama looks much different than 6-6 for 2013 Tennessee (if we can win our last 2).
Bamer was competitive in every single game they played that year. Including every ranked team they played. We have only been competitive in 1 on of our 6 losses. To compare simply based on record completely misses the point.

I am not saying that Vandy is near the historic level of UT but how Vols fans can sit here and say that they are not a good football team and well coached the last three years is beyond me. I was in the stand last year for UT v. Vandy and it was senior night. I am here to tell you, love him or hate him, Franklins Players love the guy the same way ours are loving Butch right now. I saw Dooley who was a dead man walking on the sidelines and he knew it. He was in any huddles or even speaking to the team at all. Franklin is a hell of a salesman and coach. He will move on to bigger things but the man has been great for Vandy.

Not trying to argue your point one bit. But where does Vanderbilt go after Franklin departs? Even with its recent successes. Vanderbilt does not have the facilities, history, or fanbase to sell to a proven coach. Vanderbilt will always be Vanderbilt.

They are improving their facilities.
The problem is, as you point out, the fanbase is terrible. they are in an historic run right now yet Dudley still looks like a neutral site field on big SEC gamedays.

I hope Franklin finds his way to Gainesville after this season

I hope they renew Muschumps contract for 10 more years .. cuz who wouldn't like to see those angry, super nasty scowls on the sidelines while the Gators are down by 2 TDs?

They won 3 of those games so he is doing his job. He is the greatest receiver in SEC history and will hold all the records that matter by the end of the season!

Slow your roll, should I say troll, there young un. Matthews is a very good WR, certainly Vandy's all time best just ahead of Earl Bennett and perhaps the best SEC WR THIS YEAR.

But greatest all time SEC WR??? Not.Remotely. Close. I'll spare you the embarrassment of the very long, expansive list.

I can see academically why Vanderbilt is attractive. Other than that I see nothing. Tennessee just upgraded its facilities and has a stadium that seats 102,455 fans. I have one question to any Candy fan...What do you want to see out of your team long-term? Championships? Or just being an average SEC team?
