Venezuela's Triumphant Socialist Paradise

WWII.

Somewhere one of Bolton's aides is writing a memo that the 2001 AUMF applies to Caracas.
Correct! You found a tweet I guess! So why lead with such a stupid statement since US Military blood has been shed since around 1973 purely on the basis of executive action via twisting the War Powers Act?

Oh, I'm not going back that far.

At least with Desert Storm, A-Stan and Iraqi Freedom, we had Congressional approval.
Don’t disagree but the “declaration of war” tripe is F-ing stupid. Fact is the Executive has tremendous powers to put US troops in harms way on a whim at least on a limited basis. Having the restraint to not do so is the fundamental problem.

Send in Delta or Seal Team. Send both and make it a scoring game. They’re both happier doing stuff like that and we’re safer when they’re not CONUS 😂. And you don’t read about that in the news either. Or at least you used to not read about it... 🙄

I'm not about to agree to go into Venezuela under practically any circumstances. Very few exceptions would change my mind.

However, Velo has gone full potato with this Tweet nonsense. He can feel free to correct me.

I agree. We have zero business putting US military on the ground in Venezuela even Delta or Seal Team. I just think the rest of us are safer when they’re deployed 😬 Must be some amazing self control to have an on/off switch like that. I know I couldn’t compartmentalize that much.

Agreed. The litmus test is this: Am I willing to send my husband / wife / son / daughter to die there?

If so, legitimate cause. If not, then no.

Bull ****...

Why now? Why bring Trump or his Cabinet into it? Did you complain about the other times?

I know it's not the first time. Nor will it be the last. I didn't even mention Trump. But it's a proper question to ask anytime this happens.

Now this is unique to Trump.

Trump urges caution as Bolton and Pompeo tease a military intervention in Venezuela

Trump urges caution as Bolton and Pompeo tease a military intervention in Venezuela - CNNPolitics

Trump needs to kick Bolton to the curb, that man has never seen a war he didn't want to start or get involved with.

Bolton is a hawk, no doubt. Hard to get a good read on him. On some things, he speaks bluntly, and he speaks the truth. On others, he comes across as somewhat heavy-handed. Middle ground, he won't back down from a fight, whether offered or available. Maybe not the best mentality for a diplomat. Gunboat diplomacy requires a gunboat. And people to man it.

I liked Mattis. And Kelly. Mattis at SecDef, and Kelly at SecState. Trump should have put them there, and then listened to them. JMO. You don't have to always do what they recommend, but at least listen. Letting them both go was a mistake.

I'm not by any means a blind Trump fan. He makes his mistakes, and because he's Trump, they all get magnified 100X by the media and the Dems. But he is clearly "America First", and that sets him apart from almost every other politician in the Swamp, and all of the Dems.

Looking at the Democratic Party, which is turning left farther and faster than a NASCAR race at Bristol, the fate of this nation may well hinge on Trump winning a 2nd term.

May God Bless...and guide...America. If I'm still allowed to say that out loud.

My only disagreement with your post is this notion that Dems/Progressives hate America and do not put America first. I disagree often with Republicans, Conservatives, and sometimes Democrats, but I never question their patriotism. We just have different ideas about how to solve problems.

Tell you what ace, name a place better off after socialists and communists take over. I'll give you a clue ... there aren't any. Since you had that list up there, you might want to look up how many people the communists slaughtered and/or imprisoned after they took over Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia for starters. So change it to Soviet/Russian intervention and you'll be on the right track. Go to Cuba, it's close by, you'll get an education on non US intervention. While you are at it, you might compare life in the two Koreas - the one with Sino/Soviet intervention vs the one with US intervention.

So, mentioning Bolton specifically wasn't an offhand slam against Trump?

Uh huh

Trump's actually right about Bolton wanting a bunch of conflicts (as linked above), so why does Bolton continue to shape U.S. foreign policy in a number of areas, including Venezuela?

"Orange man" bad for repeating Putin's false statements as if they're true.
