Zack Godley hurled a gem Wednesday night for the Reno Aces. He took a no hitter into the 7th. He scored the win in a 5-1 victory over Albuquerque.
Final line on Godley:
7 IP
1 H
0 R
0 ER
0 BB
7 SO
Brings his ERA down to 2.55. After spending spring training in the bull pen, DBacks are stretching him out as a starter.....again.
Zack Godley took the mound for the DBacks for the first time last night in a spot start against the Padres.
Final line:
5 IP
4 H
2 R
2 ER
3 BB
6 SO
1 HR
DBacks had a 5-2 lead as Godley exited the game. Rodney came on in the 9th and blew the lead after giving up 5 runs in a 8-5 loss.
Godley was sent back to Reno right after the game. It's expected that he will be in Reno for 5 days rest and pitch another start as Shelby Miller is on the 10 day DL.
Are the D-Backs that cheap that they would send Godley down and only bring him back up on days he is pitching just to save the money between his AAA contract and MLB minimum pay?
In the "what could have been" category:
Sal Romano made his MLB debut for the Reds last week and was optioned back to Louisville after pitching 3 innings and taking the loss against the Brewers.
For those who don't remember him, Romano was a Raleigh recruit who was on campus for summer school in 2011 but went home and signed on the deadline the same day Mookie Betts signed with the Red Sox. We were hours away from landing both of them.
How different would CDS' first two years have been if Andrew Tolles (who left UT that fall) had stayed on campus and Romano and Betts had been here alongside Godley?
As Maxwell Smart would say, "Missed it by THAT much!"

There's no difference in pay between being in AAA and the MLB if you're on the 40 man roster.
Not so.
When minor league players get named to the 40-man roster, they get several important benefits: membership in MLBPA and its health and welfare plan, travel perks, exemption from testing for marijuana and other drugs of abuse, and a minimum salary.
However, that minimum salary is not the MLB minimum of $535K. There's a separate minimum salary of $86,500 for minor leaguers covered by the MLBPA.
