VFL's in MLB and MiLB

I follow Mark Sheldon in Cincy and that is the org's expectation. I worked on the writers up there to push him with the FO before the draft. Thrilled it worked out. He fills a big need.

There has never been a stage too big for Nick Senzel. He is a fierce competitor and he wants to win and be the best player on the field every time he steps out there. It's going to be fun to watch his climb through the professional ranks.

RA Dickey picked up his 6th win last night in what was one of his best starts of the year.

7.0 IP
4 H
2 R
3 BB
8 SO

He gave up a 2 run HR in the 4th but looked really good otherwise.

I am curious how the pay structure is for a pitcher that is called up for just 1day.

Surely they get more than 1days big league salary

Good question. Do you know txbo?

My guess would be a one day payday between his minor league salary & what a big leaguer would get paid based on MLB minimum salary.

My understanding is that it is prorated based on 172 days of the regular season. 162 games and 10 days off. He was probably only paid 1/172 of $507,500 or $2950.

This is his second year of being on the 40 man roster so he is on a MLB contract which means even in the minors he's paid at least $80k/year and probably a little more. It's not huge money but it's better than the slave labor salaries of those on a minor league contract.

I would be shocked if the players union would allow a pitcher to starter an mlb game and only be paid for one games work.

For his sake I hope you are wrong here

MLB players association is pretty weak. They don't even represent MILB players and they have allowed contracts and rules that value service time. The young guys get it stuck to them.

Stew hit his 19th home run last night, the only run Lakeland scored...AJ went 0/4...

Senzel went 2/4 w/ a run, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base...he's hitting .346

I would argue the MLB players association is the strongest in pro sports. Why would the MLBPA have any interest in representing minor league players. That would dilute the benefits. At a minimum salary of nearly $3,000 per day and lifetime full medical benefits after just one day of service time, young players aren't hurting. At just 43 days of service time a player becomes vested for pension and would earn at minimum of $34,000 per year when they reach the qualifying age.

Don't forget that Stewart will be on TV this coming Sunday night on MLB network at 7 PM in the Futures Game. Looking forward to watching him. Will he start in CF or another OF position? I would think CF.

Says all 70 games have been in LF

Really? I thought he played a couple of games in CF. He's listed on the roster as an OF. You don't see that unless he's a player that has the possibility to play the other outfield positions.

The ones that are considered to only play one they have them listed just as that. Like a player that will only play LF that will only be the OF position he will have listed for him. Thanks!

@DragonsBaseball: #1 draft pick Nick Senzel has reached base four times tonight (double, single, two walks) and has stolen 3 bases.
