Usually because there are checks in place (ex. Senate, Supreme Court, in some cases States) to prevent this and other extremist agendas from coming to fruition, thankfully.
Your narrative is wrong. The Republican Senate HAS been consistent and I’ve been pointing that out to you over and over and over...
You are screaming at their rationale. But their actions are consistent. Fact.
And once again your attacking their rationale on not acting on the Garland nomination while ignoring the action of not nominating a justice in an election year with a non aligned Senate is somehow unique. What you've been pointing out is that the government is in a unique position right now, but unequivocal statements were made by many republican senators in 2016 to the effect of "we should not be making a lifetime SCOTUS appointment in an election year" or "the American people should decide..." McConnell himself said things like this. I'll provide quotes if you like.
Lincoln had a Republican led Senate and still held off on nominating a new justice until after he was reelected...so it has happened. Lincoln also had a 10th justice added and appointed 5 justices in four years, so there's also some history of packing the court. The GOP is being a bit hypocritical, but that's politics. And once again your attacking their rationale on not acting on the Garland nomination while ignoring the action of not nominating a justice in an election year with a non aligned Senate is somehow unique.
You are conflating that Garland not even getting a review and vote equates to the GOP must not act now. That narrative, for about the fifth time now, is not supported by our country’s history. Obama had a GOP Senate. Trump has a GOP Senate. Even Mittens and Alexander even pointed out this basic fact
When you're going back to civil way days for examples you've pretty much lost the upper handLincoln had a Republican led Senate and still held off on nominating a new justice until after he was reelected...so it has happened.
