Vince Young soap opera

yes, though, the LSU scenario would show how it's not as important of a game, unless the situation has lined up for it to be, rather than it being a say "the most major of games" on its own all the time

...also I thought you said were done with this for the night?

I'm not convinced of that yet. I think Young and several of the players are very frustrated because of their head coach being so conservative. Young is just not very good at biting his tongue when he needs to bite it. Griffin trying to stop Young says there are guys who agree with whatever Young said. When a QB has as high of a passer rating as Young, and you only attempt 18 passes, you have a coaching problem.

Young only attempted 18 passes because he was injured, Fisher opened up the offense weeks ago. This tantrum was a direct result of his injury, something the head coach had no control over. Vince wanted back in but the team doctors and Fisher didn't believe he was ok to go. Hard to argue with their assessment in this situation.

Why, so Fisher can tell Kolb to play conservative and loe close games?

This is a moronic statement. Part of Fisher's football philosophy is to play conservative for sure but when you don't have a guy that can make the reads and has issues picking up the schemes your going to limit what you allow him to do. granted Vince was getting better but this recent step backward is par for the course for Vince. His reaction to his injury and benching is owned by him alone.

Yeah i'd say Bud had a little something to do with that. McNair was a good QB in his prime. Young maybe could be but his head just isn't right. He doesn't seem to want to put in the work necessary or be a strong leader. You have to do both to be successful at this level.

You will never convince me that getting rid of McNair without first letting him mentor and transition Young into the starting role was a good move. I realize cap was an issue but i would have found a way to do it. Young needed someone he respected to teach him how to be a pro. He just doesn't get it, maybe he never would no matter the mentor.

As for Fisher and his time with the Titans becoming "stale", I can certainly entertain that. Maybe it is time to make a change but Fisher is still a very good coach. He is conservative by nature but then again he's never really had the personnel to open things wide up. He has the tools right now but the major cog in the wheel is Young at this point, hard to open things up when you don't trust the guy under center for a variety of reasons.

I'm not trying too. Vince doesn't make the right read half the time. That is why it looks so conservative. He might have a guy wide open over the middle and he dumps it off underneath for a 3 yard gain. He's like a stove, when he's on he's pretty good, when he's off, he's off. I see a guy that lacks touch on the ball and reads a defense right about half the time. When teams disguise their coverage against him forget about it.:salute:

The departure of Floyd Reese was the beginning of the end.....

Considering the over the salary cap messes he put this team in that eventually resulted in the 04, 05 seasons and several roster purgings,.... I still think it was the right move

It's another pick your poison type situation, making Moves like that certainly put you in great positions personnel wise to make splash in the playoffs but end up costing you a few seasons in cap hell afterward. The method they're using right now has some advantages but has left us wanting in defensive talent and thin in a couple of positions.

The point of the cap really was to cause any team to eventually have to do such. Neither GM has a sound method though.

Floyds poor contract managings were the reason we had to cut derrick mason and samari rolle (the latter perhaps not as big a deal though) for example

You must have missed the dime that he threw to randy downfield in the endzone. Unfortunately, Randy unnecessarily pushed off, negating the touchdown.

He could have just turned and maybe even extended one arm and it wouldn't have been called, but his method was blatant.

the last he did #2 he cut all the starters from his team

When? Since the Titans have been in TN? He didn't cut the starters in the 2000s. Floyd Reese went for it all and caused salary cap jeapordy. Adams has stayed out of it since the franchise moved to TN up until the Titans drafted VY.

The Titans have opened up for Jeff Fisher, and that is the whole problem with Fisher. His version of opening it up is throttled down for most coaches.

Fisher runs a conservative offense no matter the QB's ability. Fisher would make Peyton and Brady look like average QBs at best.

He opened it for Steve from 2001-2003, if you give Fisher a good QB he can win games.

I agree with everything you say except maybe the last part about opening it up. One could also argue it is hard for a QB to play comfortable when/if he feels his coach is just waiting for a mistake so he can justify pulling him.

Do you consider the Titans' offense from 2001 to 2003 s opened up as the Colts are now? I don't. At the time, McNair was one of the top QBs (if not the top) in the league. Peyton is that now. That's part of my point.

after 93. He told the team that if they didn't win the Super Bowl, he was going to break up the team.

The team went 12-4 - their best record in texas - but they lost to the chiefs in the 2nd round of the playoffs. He followed up by gutting the roster, including trading the team's starting quarterback Warren Moon to the Minnesota Vikings. Team went 2-14 the next year.

Bud doesn't have a great history when getting "hands on" with his teams

The BCS title game only began in 98, thus 12 not 18.

The discussion was how often the SEC championship game factored into the national title.

If you want just BCS era, then your number drops from 9 (which I gave as statistic for all of the SEC Championship Game's history) to 6.

so 6 in 12

and again, I thought you said you were done?

Agreed. He had seemed to have taken a different approach after the team relocated to TN though. I guess that was short lived.
