Vincent Dallas leaves team

Aren't we saying exactly the same thing??

Not sure. I thought you meant quitting the team regardless of when. I said they should have stuck the year out. I thought you were saying quitting at the end of the season showed poor character too.

No not at all. I would wish them the best after the season. Leaving for a better situation is ok but quitting in the middle of the season shows a serious lack of character IMO.

OK then. I can understand your position. I still hesitate to make a character judgment without knowing all the facts but on the surface it definitely doesn't look good.

I'm thankful for Vincent Dallas' contribution to the Vols. He moved around so much over his career, that had to be hard. I wish he would just stick this season out and finish up. Probably more to this story, but none of us knows.

So let's just thank him for some good plays (huge hit on special teams in the Florida game this year, if I recall) and cheer him on wherever he goes next.

Hero of the day imo

I wish him the best, but I refuse to be upset that a kid who got minimal playing time (which is generous) chooses to go a different route. We have certainly survived without him so far, I don't anticipate a meltdown in the wake of his absence.

Nancy jr. a lesson for. When the article "A" is used in a noun phrase where the term "god" is applied, that term begins with a small "g". Same thing butchna when using the article "An" for infallible god. But you rpost was funny. Because you're referring an entity that is not the Judaeo-Christian deity thus not meant to a proper noun. Further, Nancy jr. , I answered your question. So if you can ask one, surely I can answer one.
Sorry Nancy didnt mean to hurt your feelings hahahaha

Thanks for the props?....I don't want to be that grammatically correct if'n I cain't use AN in the way our one true Republican GOD intended!!! :fool:

So if your employer came to you said "You have no future here. Not only will you not get a raise I am cutting your pay in half and I expect you to work just as hard." You would say yes sir! I'm no quitter so I'm gonna stick this out so I can feel better about myself? Come on Bruin, I've been on your side more often than not. I'm disappointed in your stance here. I don't condone quitting but we don't know any of the details here so I refuse to cast judgment. Regardless of the circumstances, they should have finished out the year.

I'm pretty sure my boss told me that 10 seconds in but it was basic training....

Kids quit teams all the time when they are not playing. Most of them go to another school where they can play. No one is obligated to stick it out when the situation is not working for him just because a bunch of men sitting with keyboards will call them "quitter" if they don't.

Wrong. Their scholarship is contingent on them playing. Quitting should mean paying the school for the rest of the semester just like other regular students

Just never know which players are going to pan out. Everyone was pumped when Dallas came to the Vols:

TOS write up:

Heralded Georgia prospect Vincent Dallas, reported to have as many as 30-plus offers, ended a tense recruiting process when he verbally committed to the Volunteers here at his Cedar Grove High School. Utilizing his school's homecoming pep rally for his platform to announce, Dallas donned an orange "Power-T" Tennessee polo and adidas cap in making his announcement. The Vols beat out Florida, LSU and Oklahoma State, among others, for the versatile three-star standout's commitment.

Too bad he did not do more at TN.

I agree, I had a good friend that had to transfer out this semester because of tuition rising. Why should he get a free pass if he didn't keep his end of the deal.

If he was forced to leave(which I thought at first) then he should get to keep it. But if he's the one choosing to leave, I don't think he should get a free ride. But of course, that's just my opinion.

If a kid feels a need to leave...that is his/her right. It usually means he/she could get more playing time elsewhere AND it may benefit the original team in the long run. OBVIOULSY he/she is not liable for tuition for the rest of the semester. They are NOT regular students.

It's great he picked UT over others recruiting him...but things changed.

If a kid thinks they can play more elsewhere then more power to them. It's their life.

Oh we'll, he didn't do much. I really thought he was going to be the go-to receiver this season. What a let down

Also...if an athlete leaves a program b/c they are not playing much and/or not happy....or they aren't happy with the program....that is one thing b/c staff is usually glad to fill that spot with someone that fits their style. Not saying that is the case with VD...but that opens up a spot for another kid.

A regular student would get charged the remaining tuition for the semester b/c the university wants that money and the university would not get anything form that student the way a program would that athlete.

Didn't articulate perfectly....but JMO!

P.S. Love VD.....he just wants to play. Much respect for him.

There should be some Div III school out there where he can stand out above the others and be the Rock Star he wants to be. But it isn't in Knoxville. Butch's primary focus is on the team, not the individual. VD didn't want a team assignment on Butch's team. Good bye VD. A true VFL for a very short ride.

He made it through half the season, he should have stuck it out. Be a team mate for crying out loud. He could have tutored the younger players and helped be another coach out there, but he chose to quit. Many doors were open to him and he decided to close all of the football related ones. On the other hand, if he truly didn't think he could help then good riddance. You don't want trash filling up the lockeroom.

I can't disagree with you. My point was we really don't know what is going on behind the scenes here. I/we really don't have enough information to throw VD under the bus IMO.

Honestly, with this coach, I wouldnt doubt it that the BYE week was a really hard adversity to deal with for players who aren't getting playing time or doesnt think its worth it. I wouldnt doubt for a second that Jones knows this week was critical and they had to be pushed as hard as they been pushed to even think about winning the rest of their games (-Alabama). If you've been on a football team, you can always sense a few are getting tired of working so hard for something that they may not think is rewarding them personally. Just my opinion. Go VOLS.

This still makes no sense unless he and Jones had a major blow up over PT or some other issue or else he has a personal issue that everyone has agreed to keep quiet.

I see no way that Jones would not want him on the team or would discourage him from continuing to try to carve out PT. Even if he was sure he would ride the bench for the remainder of the season, there's no reason for him to quit before the end of the season. He still only has one year of eligibility assuming he transfers to a lower level.
