The fact that they are even able to propose this idea publicly , not to mention get it passed , without any fear whatsoever , is scary .

No public office should be held by anyone that could justify the use of government force against those that would ridicule them, even harshly. (sharp delineation with genuine and actionable personal threat of harm)

That bill would be constitutional in VA. It is based on the following existing law:

Threatening the president of the United States is a federal felony under United States Code Title 18, Section 871. It consists of knowingly and willfully mailing or otherwise making "any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the president of the United States".

actually it won't hold up to it's definition of the word "harassment"...much too broad legally in this context

Imho, I think it’s possible that it ceases to be a national party and will become a regional party. Florida and eventually Texas will turn blue and it will be partially because the republicans helped the democrats dig their own grave. After 40 years of “conservatism”, Republicans have almost nothing to show for it.
