no he was not ahead. at this same point Kiffin had 3 guys who could not qualify, an obese troublemaking OL that NOBODY wanted, and 2 solid DL.
no, I cannot say I am as excited as I was last year. i have never been as excited about UT football as i was last year. Kiffin brought so much swag it was ridic and i loved being hated.
that being said, I would take Dooley's class over Kiffin's at this same point in time. not saying I would later in the year cuz i dunno what Dooley will do, but right now, I choose Dooley's.
Dude, I guess just agree to disagree.
Kiffin grabbed Bryce and Janzen out of nowhere. The only guy of that caliber that Dooley's gotten like that is Rogers.
From Dec 1 when Kiffin was hired to when the '09 class closed out: Janzen, B Brown, Oku, Toney Williams, Myles Jr, Nuke, Eric Gordon, Marsalis Teague, Jacques Smith (I know), Nyshier Oliver (de-committed and changed to ND but Kiffin got him back), Mike Edwards (thug but was a fairly solid get and would've maybe HELPED us get a foot in the door with one of the best HS programs in Ohio) and Arthur Jeffery if you want to throw him in there. (I'm only counting the guys Kiffin pulled, not counting guys like Marlon Walls and Montori Hughes in the class)
So that's Dec 1 to March 16th when Bryce committed. Exactly 3 and half months.
From the day Dooley was hired + 3 and half months:
Even if you want to count Hunter and Loften (already looking at us, especially Loften he was basically a Kiffin recruit) that's fine. Da'Rick Rogers (nice get), Rajion Neal (i like the get), James Stone (we'll see), Michael Rivera (you said he's not that good yourself, should I find that post???), Marteze Jackson (.....), Dontavis Sapp (.....), John Propst (eh), Raiques Crump (....), Dave Clark (Dooley brought him basically from LA Tech... we'll see), and Nash Nance (bait for Rogers.. and Kiffin brought in Tyler Bray). Oh, Darin Gooch was Dooley's post-NSD pull and Christian Harris for 2011 (eh, whatever).
Looks like the only position that'd be better is WR to me. But Nuke and Teague weren't chopped liver coming out of HS. And I didn't even mention James Green who didn't make it in.
So basically through the first 4 months (spanning the end of one class and beginning of another for both) Kiffin's list is clearly better.
If Kiffin hadn't left we'd have Markeith Ambles, Brandon Willis, Glen Stanley (unless he wasn't able to get into the SEC?), Kenbrell Thompkins, and no telling who else if USC hadn't pulled the rug out on us. Heck, Kyle Prater may be at UT if Kiffin were here. I'd take Ambles and Prater over Rogers as a pair for sure. Kiffin also got Matt Milton and Ted Meline. So I think we'd have our bases covered at WR, too.
