VN Baseball Coaching Search 2011

Serrano's 'blow my socks off' line has me thinking we are now down to the second tier of choices.

I think that have him an out if they hired Holbrook. If Serrano doesn't get the job it's because of the degree.

He's wanted it all along and I seriously doubt that's changed this week.

The stuff about Cheek and the AD in flux business prolly just has me thinking negatively...

With #Fullerton coach Dave Serrano next up to interview, it looks like #vols will hire the frontrunner since day 1 of this search. #sec

Cheek was pounding the anti-Serrano drum because of the degree before Hamilton stepped down. If he doesn't get it, it'll be because Cheek intervened.

Why did Holbrook take his name out of the hat? I'm guessing he asked for a stupid amount of money.

The other night when I came on and said TOS said Serrano on Tuesday? I didn't buy it completely because when I asked if Holbrook would interview, they said no "because he got wind that it was Serrano's job to lose" or something like that. I didn't believe it then, I don't believe it now.

Holbrook is in a fantastic situation in Columbia. The question should be why in the world would he want to come here? Money and to be a HC, for a rock bottom team, in the toughest division in college baseball, and without knowing who his boss will be.

I'm not saying they had a pile of money on a table, I don't know. If money IS the reason he pulled his name, then we won't get Serrano either. I doubt that was the reason he pulled out, but I don't discount it either. Money should be the least of UT's worries with this hire.

300K-400K should get Serrano. How could he turn down 175% raise? There's no way in he!!. This may be his last best shot at a great job.

poster on tos says that Stricklin has interviewed...tifwiw

I really hope we get Serrano, but if things don't work out with him, Stricklin would be a really good hire. People will hate it because he's a mid major guy, but with his SEC ties and overall great coaching, he could do good things here quickly. Kent State has been the dominant mid-west team for the last 4-5 years now and that's not easy to do with a MAC budget and resouces.

If you can have success recruiting in the MAC, you're doing something great.

Think about that! Raleigh was in that range. If they can get Serrano, hell, that's a bargain considering what he's accomplished. If he'd gotten the Oregon job, he'd be making twice that.

Serrano had the job up until Hamilton bailed.

You may be right about that. The incident to which I'm referencing was well after Hamilton left.

If Jimmy the Cheek screws this hire up I will be furious. Maybe the reports on him are accurate.

I still think Serrano is the hire and the rest is/was window dressing or camouflauge.(Holbrooke included)

I think there was/is a faction at UT that really wanted Holbrook and once Hamilton was gone they kicked it into high gear. jmo
