Caller said I hope it's Serrano, I think he'd be a good Coach. Hyams agreed. Then the caller said, I hope they don't tighten the purse strings. Hyams said me too, "I hope they can work it out." interesting phrase...

Tanner saying same thing on Holbrook. Understands opportunity in front of him. Wants to keep him, if it's possible.

Tanner on Holbrook: "We'd all hate to see him go, but it's not a lateral move. It's a good job."

Think there is any chance it is Holbrook, or is this going to become a Dooley-type hire?

Not saying Serrano is out, just saying I'm worried. As for Holbrook. He's in a tough situation because he leaves for Omaha on thursday. I don't know that NOT saying whether he is staying or going is much of an option. I'm just guessing.

When you're calling on Butler, who was passed over for the Nebraska job,by their version of Burke...I get worried.

Butler has a good rep as a recruiter. Keep in mind a search committee is involved, so there going to recommend names that have recently interviewed elsewhere. Thus the Butler interview.

Hyams is also a crap slinger. Keep that in mind.

Definitely...an Arky radio station reported that Butler was in on both jobs, before Erstad was hired. Still, as with Pierce, I haven't found any news in their hometown papers that says what Hyams's is saying...so, yes I'm cautious about all this stuff.

It's not just the search, but all this junk about Cheek too.

I know Pierce was interviewed the last go around, wasn't Butler as well?

How so, Tia.

Somewhere in this thread I posted an article. It said that Gilmore had some initial talks with Hamilton, that he was interested, but that he hadn't heard anything since he was fired. Now he's not even interested in an interview. Maybe he just liked Hamilton OR maybe the instability scares some folks off.

10-4. Thanks again.

I'm starting to get the feeling that the UT AD will find a way to screw this whole coaching search up.

If Serrano interviews tomorrow I feel better about things, for several reasons.

Couple things...It had bothered me that Serrano would be interviewed before Holbrook. I think Rogers had that right, and he was adamant about it. Why would you fly your #1 candidate across the country, send him home, only to have him return 3 or 4 days later if you named him HC?

The fact that Holbrook was willing to take an interview dictated things to a degree, as he was the only candidate still playing games. He had a relatively small window to do the interview.

If Serrano interviews tomorrow, as Rogers has maintained, he's in Knoxville and he can be named HC almost immediately if they choose, which even Hyams says is thursday or friday. I would rather him be the final candidate to interview.

All that said, Holbrook didn't take his name out of the running. We still have the top two candidates. Anything can happen, but I feel better about things right now than I did yesterday at the same time. Somebody, seriously... Paint the rock! GBO
