VN Baseball Coaching Search 2011

Money better not be the reason, I don't know if we can blow his socks off but we ought to be able to fill his wallet, and give him a nice place to raise his kids, same with Holbrook.

Have to weigh in here. I can speak from 1st hand exposure to most of the coaches in the SEC & ACC. Chad Holbrook would be a steal. * He has been a winner every where he has gone. *He is if not the best, one of the top 3 recruiters in the nation. Check out the Major League Rosters of all of his recruits from the Tarheels and now the Gamecocks.
* He knows the game and finds a way to get the best out of his players. Kids play hard for him. **** Name a candidate being interviewed that has been an integral part of more College World Series Teams, ACC Champion Teams & SEC Champion Teams, Regional & Super Regional Teams then Chad? There is none! * Highly Respected in baseball circles from Major League Scouts, College coaching peers & High School coaches as a fearless competitor. I do admit I do not know Coach Serrano and he gives UT an option of 2 Winners to choose from. My only concern is that he has been away from east coast style baseball and southeast recruiting for some time. Not that he cant make that up but I believe Chad has the advantage. Either candidate will make UT baseball successful and will give the Vols instant creditability…. HOPE WE DON’T SCREW IT UP! Just my opinion :)

Thanks for your take on Holbrook. An hour ago a guy I'm following said we might know something late night or tomorrow. He did say it's better than 50-50 he stays. His wife is from there and has family as you know I'm sure. We'll see. Great position for us to be in at the moment and my hope is the same as yours.

You are correct on the Family ties however I dont think that its a deal breaker. Chad knows that this is a great opportunity. The only question will be will UT nickle & dime one of the best coaching talents in the Nation and lose the opportunity to lock down this guy? Time for the Adminstration to be courageous!!
PS.... Just think, Chad would give kids in the southeast a reason to choose UT over Vandy! :good!:

I'm as worried about Tennessee tightening the purse strings as anybody. It's not just the family ties. It's the fact that he's at a program that's already there and by most accounts, all he has to do is sit tight, and he'll eventually be running it. That's what Tanner wants and SC fans too. He'd be fine by me, I don't want to be Chad Holbrook right now, that's for sure.

I've waited it out. Doesn't look like there's going to be any more Holbrook news tonight.
Tomorrow watch:Twitter and Twitter for Holbrook news early in the morning. Follow Rogers:Twitter for Serrano news.

There's still reason to be optimistic. GBO!

I'll be following it that's for sure. Hope this hire can be made before I leave for Destin this Saturday.

Thanks man, need all the help I can get tomorrow morning, got stuff to do, unfortunately. GBO!

Forgot to mention, Mike Bell to FSU as pitching coach...maybe... per Rogers.

This is what happens when you check one more time, lol... from Tanner:

“Could you blame him if he got an opportunity,” Tanner asked. “We’d all hate to see him go but it’s not a situation where you feel like it’s a lateral move or not a good job. If that was to work out, we’d be tremendously supportive. That being said, I hope it doesn’t work out.”

“Obviously, you would hope the timing would be better,” Tanner said. “That being said, Chad Holbrook is a professional and a dear friend of mine. I support him regardless of the situation and however it turns out. It is what it is and we’ll deal with it. He’s a guy, that if I were an athletic director somewhere and I had an opportunity to hire him, I would do my very best to hire him. We’re going to do our very best to keep him here and that’s been expressed by everyone involved. We’ll have to see what transpires here the next few days.”

Holbrook is currently in the first year of a three-year contract as an assistant at South Carolina. He makes $160,000 per season with three different incentive clauses.

Which I might add is 20K more than Serrano makes as a HC at CSF.

thanks for the updates!

I still have this uneasy feeling that UT will botch this.
