All we hear is how black is not a school color that our colors are white & orange. Surely every school doesn't have white as a school color yet all have white uniforms.
Smartest post in the thread.

I like the grey they are going with this year. They have put out alot of that. Loved the outfit the guys were wearing after the game Saturday. Will be purchasing some as I get the money.

....

I ask this to the "traditionalists" on VN opposed to any change in our gameday uniforms: Do you eat the same friggin thing for dinner every day?

I eat bacon every morning and drink beer every night.

When I go to Neyland, I wanna see orange and white.

All schools have white uniforms because they had to make sure people watching the game on black and white TVs could tell the teams apart...so, argument invalid.

Why do our other team sports wear other colors besides just orange or white? Might I add if you still have a black & white tv you're probably about to kill over so it doesn't matter.

Okay, how about a smokey out?

Tennessee is Orange and White. If you want black then go be a freakin' Texas Tech fan.
WE don't change over a 100 years of history and tradition because some douches thing black "looks cool" or is "hip".

Some of you probably don't even know how we got Orange & White.

"Maybe members of the Big Orange Nation would have guessed their beloved orange color came from General Neyland. Or maybe the Shields and the Watkins (For whom the field is named after). Or maybe it was some school president who liked the hue.
None of the above. The idea came from an undersized guard on Tennessee’s first football team in 1891 named Charles Moore who got the idea from the color of the American Daisies that grew on the what is known as The Hill, where most of the classrooms were at that time.

In 1892 students endorsed the colors at a special meeting, but two years later were dissatisfied with the choice and voted to drop them. After a heated one-day debate no other colors proved satisfactory, so the students returned to orange and white.
Fast forward to April 1898 when Moore, now the president of the Athletic Association, chose to color the school’s first field day in orange and white and the colors where there to stay.

However, the orange and white jerseys did not make their first appearance until the 1922 season as the Vols opened the year by beating Emory and Henry 50-0."

As has been noted, that's the University's palette, not the athletic department's. The official UTAD styleguide lists orange, white and columbia blue (for women's teams only). No black, It is not available online, only for licensees.

However, if you wish to make a big deal out of the University page posted, then I will note two things from it. Black appears nowhere on it. There is the dark grey "Smokey" color that is only supposed to be used in print. There is also this passage from halfway down the page:

"And remember, orange should always be the dominant color in every piece."

Is the baseball team part of the athletic department? Seems like other team sports have used black & gray along with orange & white. I think the baseball team has even worn navy blue.

"""BLACK is the absence of color"""

Nope, black is all colors. WHITE is the absence of color.

Black is most definitely 'a color'.

Never said they didn't wear black, but that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about "official" colors, which black is not.

Like I've said SEVERAL times in this thread, this continuing discussion is a moot point as long as Dooley is our head coach. He's not going to allow black helmets, jerseys or anything else. He is more of a traditionalist than even many of the posters in this thread.

Black shoelaces could be a nice accessory as well, and don't players still do eye-black to accentuate their cheekbones? Perhaps everyone should wear eye-black as a show of support for the boys!

Ciao for now!
