Horrible aint it?

Winning is a tradition. Im all for whatever it takes to maintain that one...

I bet the Volwalk was met with "This isnt tradition."

I bet the checkerboard was met with "This isnt tradition."

I bet changing the orientation of running through the T from the 50 yard line down to the endzone was met with "This isnt tradition."

I bet dropping the "VOLS" from the stadium was met with "This isnt tradition."

Before traditions become traditions, they are always just another crazy idea...

And if anybody for one second would change how they pull for UT, financially, vocally, or in presence, based on a little uniform change for these kids who have no clue what UT was in its heyday, then they arent a true fan. Sports these days is all about branding...and the only brand we push now is the power T, and so long as it's orange and big, the rest is just details.

Woh woh, back up. I never said I wasn't going to pull for UT so simmer down. I just said changing all of the gear is D-U-M-B. Let lame ass teams in the Pac 10 do that crap.

I would also hope that recruits aren't going to a school because they have flashy uniforms. Do you think 'Bama is going to change their uniforms for some joe-schmo recruit? Hell no.

is this considered "marketing" to get recruits? Because it's ****ing ugly as sin if you ask me. Whoever designed these for Maryland should be fired.

I don't really like the helmet but could handle it for one or two games. IMO, the UT helmets are classic college football helmets that should remain the same forever.

So we should go back to this then?

OH no! Im sorry if it came across as implying you would, but I know for a fact that there are many here who would let a uniform change affect how they root for the team. So no, not directed atyou, just generalizing.

Remember the stories of big time old money guys walking out of the game when the black uni's came out? Stuffed shirt dry cod's. Get a grip men.

Where I do disagree is that hell yes, they will come for a uniform. If they will come because their buddy is here, they will come if you give them a years supply of red bull. These kids just want whatever strikes a chord...and flash does. Most of these guys could care less about tradition, history, or even education for that matter (see CP reference) they just want to play for a school that can show "swagger" (and uni's contributes to that) and possibly go pro...

Its all about immediate satisfaction and appearances these days.

As much as I hate to say it, we've been just as lame as anybody for a couple of years now.

Wow this is a lot of talk over a helmet.
I think anything to bring some excitement back to big orange country would be a step in the right direction. We need it.

That was designed by UnderArmor, who has all the kids ears these days, and they were quoted as not giving one rats arse about what the fan thinks, they did it for the kids.

Ugly yes. Did the kids like it? Hell yes.

I remember watching the game with some UGA fans. They were laughing at the black and orange unis when the game started. They weren't laughing as much when the game ended.

It amazes me that it took so long to come up with the facemask concept. Personally, I would have invented the facemask before adding the helmet part.

Did you see the codpiece shaped nose guard in that uniform history poster? Leather strap wrapped around you head and it looked like a jockey strap cup...
