that looks good! i always pictured a dark gray instead of black. make that tennessee orange pop! :good!:

Because our shade of orange is so bright, not to mention truly distinctive, dark gray is one of the few colors that really complements it well. It is a combination that I often wear in terms of fan apparel. Not to mention, gray is not a common uniform color. Combining orange with dark gray would go against the grain of this ludicrous obsession with black, further setting us apart from the proverbial pack.

Remember that one of Coach Jones' points of emphasis was that you could walk into any high school in the country, clad in Tennessee regalia, and you would be instantly recognizable. Proof of the accuracy of his observation can be found in the fact that, on a return trip from Montana, a baggage handler at the airport in Kalispell noticed my orange fleece jacket and, without my saying a word, he said "you guys are a long ways from home."

Edit: Yeah I know, need to fix my orange color some, coming out sorta yellowish....but y'all get the point. : )>

I like it!...there a way to make the jersey all orange and ditch the wide white stripe on the side? Think a Orange or white facemask is better...Orange myself. I think the Black pants with checkerboard on the side is aaaaawesome!!!

maybe we could get something awesome like this

I'm biased, but I think Md has the best looking flag is the US, and it translated into a pretty cool uni. (although i can understand it's not for everyone)
My daughter, a sophmore at UMd just bought a bikini top like the Terp uni

Orange and White

The school colors of orange and white date to April 12, 1889, when Charles Moore, president of UT Knoxville's athletic association, chose the colors for the first field day. His inspiration came from the orange and white daisies that grew profusely on the Hill. Students endorsed the colors in 1892.

Traditions are more important than being cool and changing with every fad.

How about just you know, use our colors...Orange and white. Shocker.

A little change never hurts. We don't have to go all Boise State or Oregon, but a little tweak here or there or a once in a blue moon game in the black jerseys to catch the kids' attention is not a bad thing.

The black matte "T" on the black helmet that floated around last year was pretty sweet. All it needed was an orange highlight around the edge of the Power "T." Run out in that with the black jerseys and black pants and you have one jacked up group of kids - plus a revenue making opportunity.

That is a big reason they do the many different types of jersey. For some reason, the AD's of these schools want to make money.

But hey, let's just keep shouting "tradition" every time somebody wants to change things.

Black is now a part of our color scheme, get used to it.

We use it as trim on away jerseys, the new seats at TBA are black and the Bball Vols have a black jersey in the arsenal that WILL be worn at some point this season.

If it's acceptable for the Lady Vols to add the baby blue, then it shouldn't be a big deal that we add black. Well, rephrase that, it ISN'T a big deal, b/c it's already happened.

I agree. They have trimmed the numerals on the road jerseys in BLACK. Look around Neyland Stadium, see all the BLACK incorporated into the signs.

But I don't want to ruffle the traditionalists sensitive little feelings in this matter. I will play along, Tennessee's colors are orange and white. So if Tennessee does not use BLACK as a color, then they need to get rid of it. Call the pride of the southland band, and burn the band uniforms, because they are mostly black. Oh but that would be ugly, wouldn't it?

It is interesting to note that Orange and White were chosen as the schools colors, because it was the same color as the flowers that grow on the hill. The flowers is known as pansies. Hmmmm. With the way the team has been playing over the past 5 years, are we sure we want the guys to dress up like pansies? Personally, I am beginning to think that a little black wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I never thought the words "split personality" or "schizophrenia" could ever be used in conjunction with college football uniforms. After consideration of that combination, however, those terms somehow fit.

Fact: It is impossible to score a touchdown while wearing a black jersey in Neyland. If you think any color other than orange should be worn, you must hate the vawls and all things Tennessee.

Here (University of Tennessee Volunteers Football Uniform and Team History | Heritage Uniforms and Jerseys ), in chronological sequence, are fourteen of the uniform combinations worn by Tennessee since the inception of its football program in 1891. Yes, black was the primary color of jerseys from 1911 to 1920 (TNJN - Tennessee football uniform history ). Orange jerseys were first worn in 1927 and have been consistently used for the last 85 years. It is a very specious argument to contend, based on that pattern of usage, that black uniforms are a prominent aspect of Tennessee tradition.

I guess the 4 tds we scored against USCe was all a dream...

An even more specious counterargument. One game out of 944 played between 1927 and 2011. Incidentally, our record for that entire period is fourth best nationally in winning pct. (.71239) and second best in wins (656). See I-A Winning Percentage 1927-2011 . As for the period when we consistently wore black jerseys (1911-1920), we were 42nd in winning pct. (.67143). See I-A Winning Percentage 1911-1920 . Now, I am not about to contend that there is a statistical correlation, let alone a causal relationship associated with wearing specific uniform combinations. In the parlance of the younger and often far too casual generation, just sayin.

Well from my point if boys wanna come play ball for me, be the measuring stick of my job, earn the school millions of dollars, and be happy i would def be a little lenient on what they wanna wear.

Most if not all teams wore black back then. It was 21' when they first wore the orange jerseys.

go to the 09:35 mark...
