When UT goes orange and black they will loose their identity. Look at our record since we tried black jerseys.

There is not a better trademark for UT athletics than Tennessee Orange and White. When fans across the nation see that color and that power T on the helmet there is no question who is on the field. The same with Auburn and Alabama's traditional looks. Teams without a national identity have to push fads to create a trademark.

Alabama, Auburn, or LSU are having no difficulty attracting the nation's best talent with their traditions. To suggest that UT experiment with our tradition is to suggest that we are a lesser program and have to try such gimmicks to attract talent and publicity.

As I said, look at our record since we tried black jerseys. How did that work out for you?

Did somebody say black?

I like the idea of an occaisional mix-up (ie blackout), but overall I agree that we should stick to our simplistic, traditional orange and white design.

Someone else mentioned putting Smokey on the helmets... I think a snarling, foaming at the mouth bluetick coonhound could provide some serious intimidation. Little things like this go a long way to motivate players and fans.

Except in Mizzou's case.

not at all. The main reason I do not oppose black highlights in the Tennessee uniforms is because it give contrast with the white, and the pale orange which are both on the bright end of the color spectrum.

want to know one of the main reasons they went with the orange an white? When games began to be televised, someone at Tennessee noted opponents claims that it was impossible to read the players numbers on black and white game film, and wanted to take every advantage of that.

Personally, I would have thought better of Tennessee had they said, OK, let's make the numbers clearly readable, and let's still kick their butts.

I have heard commentators, in the era of color television, complain about the legibility of white numerals against the background of orange jerseys. However, I had not previously heard of opponents complaining about their visiblity on black and white film. Personally, I don't see any overt deception; those are our specific colors and we are not obligated to trim them in black for the benefit of television announcers or opposing coaches.

The current jerseys are terrible. The material has no luster, and the orange color is off. Heck, I'd be happy if they could figure out how to make the orange on the helmet, pants and jerseys actually match.
There are ways to actually incorporate tradition. I don't think adding elements of black or dark gray void tradition. Incorporating the checkerboard is a great idea, if done right. I loved those white pants with the checkerboard up the side. Hey, if you like orange then why not a chrome shine orange helmet with white power T?

UT's unis don't look right. The material looks terrible.

Our uniforms are the awesomest... If you live in 1985. It's time for a change. The players want it and deserve it, the fans (the ones born after 1960) want it and deserve it.

Born in 1990. I'm against change for the sake of change. If it looks updated but still maintaining tradition then I'm all for giving it a look.

Their colors match up better now than they ever have in my lifetime. That is one thing Dooley got fixed. I'm not saying they are perfect, but they are closer than they have ever been. I remember when we went to a white face mask in the early 80's. They thought about getting orange ones then, but they thought they looked too much like Tampa Bay. I really don't care what their uniforms look like as long as they win. They could be pink and I wouldn't care. Well maybe not pink, but you get my point.

These points have been addressed previously by persons more knowledgeable in relevant industries. Unfortunately, I don't have citations for their remarks at hand. In a nutshell, our shade of orange (Pantone Matching System number 151) is particularly susceptible to variance in terms of perceived color value, depending on whether it is applied as a paint to helmets or the fabric material selected for usage. Shoot, even the presence or absence of sunlight impacts its reflectivity and, thus, its perceived color value.

Incidentally, I like that helmet scheme and believe that it would provide a great visual counterbalance to our white road jerseys and orange pants.

Im not saying it is Damn. I just wanted to know since we have a new coach is the contract still valid. Nike>addidas.

The contract is with the entire athletic department, not the football coach, and who that coach is has very little bearing on whether we renew with Adidas or go to another company.

This is the third year of a five-year contract, meaning the renewal process will begin this coming summer, a process that takes almost a year.

I have no doubt that we will open it up to all bidders, just as we did in 2004 and 2009. But what you need to understand is that Nike did not come close to matching the offer Adidas made then, both financially and in product and exposure. Based on our recent performance on the field in all sports, I can't imagine Nike will be beating down our door to outbid Adidas when they weren't even willing to do so when we were doing well.

We'll take the best offer for Tennessee, not the best offer that matches the opinion of someone on a message board.
