Vol uniform/helmet design discussion (merged)

DP want to chime in on this?

Hubbs was just guessing, based on Butch doing it at Cincinnati.

What Butch told some of the former players at an event that he hosted was that they had lots of combinations at Cincy because they needed the attention something like that draws among second-tier players. Tennessee doesn't need that to grab attention because it's a top-tier program that recruits top-tier players. The facility (he used that example because they were sitting in it) draws more attention than any new helmet ever will.

All of that said, if adidas comes to Butch with a throwback design or something like that, he's far more likely to agree to it than Dooley would have been. Don't look for some random alternate or for significant changes to the usual uniforms, though.

thanks DP. i believe now that CBJ is getting a taste of SEC recruiting he will be open to generating a little uni hype.. anything helps.

Fade the checkerboard into a solid stripe on the pants.

Will do. May do both black & white pants as well.

I will also add Davey on the side version as well as the newer Vols logo.

And yeah bout adding in traditional parts, the orange Tennessee would have the 'give my all' wording on it as well.

They did a whiteout at a home game in Cincinnati. Most of the time they wear some combination of red and black (all black, all red, or both). For whatever reason, it looked really cool with the all-white.

It’d be interesting seeing the Vols wearing their Stormtrooper look in Neyland.

Again, don't look for a lot of combinations here.

not necessarily true. There have been some decent mockups in this thread but the one you quoted is tuuuurble

I bet the old folks hated those Maryland unis too (at least the ones in my office did)

I haven't seen anything from Maryland that I have liked yet, so that's probably true. BTW, it's sad that I'm 27 and already consider myself part of the older generation. I already have arthritis, too. :/

Okay, here is what I mocked up really quick and went ahead and put the carbon fiber helmet on as well. ;)>

Pardon some of the roughness to the helmet, I know the T got distorted when I warped it to try to match the helmet area on the original image, plus some of the facemask doesn't look quite right....but you get the idea from this I think.

nice but thats Texas orange

After watching college basketball this season I wonder - is there ANY school that still uses old school design anymore in that sport ?

I hate change and I realize times are a changin and I think I can handle ONE alternate uniform per year. I love our traditional uniform that's my Tennessee I grew up watching. But ONE alt uni per year I will accept

At the risk of giving DeerPark a stroke, some of the more committed uniform people need to hit up Paul Lukas of the UniWatch blog and see if his minions would take a crack at a UT uniform. They typically do some awesome work.

It would be an easy way to get some more professional type designs, rather than the bland color changes to other school's templates that seem to always pop up.

Just a suggestion.
