Incorrect. Nobody is trying to gimmick anything into winning. But yes players do care about fashion and their uniforms. They are the ones wearing it not us.

They aren't the ones footing the bill for the football program. It's the boosters who do that, so they are the ones who should have the ultimate say as to what is and isn't acceptable game attire. Players will just be here for 3-4 years and are given the privilege to be a part of 100+ years of proud tradition (yes, uniforms are a part of this), not alter it entirely so they can look like the flavor of the week every time they take the field.

Thats not true. Players help determine if Neyland has 100k+ or 70k. They are the difference in helping make millions by winning and getting fans to fill Neyland up with Ticket Sales, Vending and Apparel Sales. UT wouldnt be in 200+ million in debt if it was just boosters being responsible for the money the school makes. Im not saying do a all out Uniform change. I love our colors and tradition but doing 1 alternate jersey a yr at home would be cool and the players obviously love that stuff. I am also for subtle changes like checkerboard design on the sleeves or down the middle of the helmets instead of a solid line.

:eek:hmy:

That black carbon fiber with orange T is bad ass!!! I'm normally a traditional guy but I could go along with that for a one-off game!
Love the one with the orange T!

since Cameron Sutton said we will work in a grey jersey/ orange helmet combo this year, can someone make that happen without the checkerboard scheme

Why are the Sacramento Kings rocking the checkerboard on their jerseys, while we stick with the status quo? Checkerboards should be a major part of our football, basketball, and baseball uniforms.

Have you not seen Kentuckys road BB uniforms ?

I'm for keeping our base uniform but some changeups for even more than just one game will happen...orange helmets black pants...metallic carbon fiber mixes will jazz up the gameday atmosphere along with changes on the field...exciting offense, stout hardnosed defense...see TCU for ways to mix up your unis without going full-blown Oregon

Ha... Not sure how you figured it out with such little evidence...

You assume I'm an old guy who sits through an entire football game because I appreciate tradition? I'm 26 years old and get just as beer'd up and noisy as anyone.

I don't want to turn into a school that wears clown shoes uniforms every week.
i agree with you. i love our uniforms, even more with the old school black cleats. however i am all for a once a year special uniform.

Black seats at the arena make sense because it is used (and will be used more...) for events other than UT sports. Some people thought the orange kind of looked tacky when out of context.

Using black as a PRIMARY uniform color is senseless unless we make it an official university color. Then we can call ourselves the Oklahoma State Cowboys. I despise trendy uniforms. There is a story behind the 3rd color for the Lady Vols. It wasn't for fashion.

OSU orange is slightly darker, like texas orange is slightly dirtier than tennessee orange. Black trim around the numbers would simply make the numbers easier to read. When the Vols run onto the field they look like creamsicles. And the older I get the harder they become to read. Personally loved the black jerseys, but that may be just me. But last time I checked, they still sell well where they are sold, and with the financial situation the way it is, if it sells, go with it. However if you are against black in the uniforms, call the designer of the band uniforms, and proceed to raise hell about the black in their uniforms. If the band wears it, put it in the football uniforms.

Do what? Fulmer allowed ONE special uniform once in 2004. He allowed the orange pants to only be worn 3 times in his entire coaching career, and we wore the new side stripe uniforms in 2002 until the Miami game when the home uniforms went back to the old ones.

If anything Fulmer would be who new uniform people would hate, he basically had 1 home and 1 road uniform for 16 years, and I gurantee if he had been rehired, it would go back to that.

Thank God he wasn't

The reason they use black on the band uniforms is because they were used as concert uniforms. I do not know if that is still true but it was when I was in the Pride. Back in the 60's the Alabama band wore gold on their band uniforms but it had no effect on their football tradition. So there is no rationale to your reasoning.

UT is orange and white. Deal with it.

Go back early enough and black was part of our color scheme...tradition is what you make

By the way, not that anyone cares, but that blonde in the lower left hand corner wearing the 'Big Orange Blouse' is none other than Denise Conrad Bates, wife of Bill and 1981 Homecoming Queen. Don't ask how I remember that, I just do.

Anyone who went to UT at the time would remember her. A very sweet young lady and stunningly beautiful as well. She lived in Hess Hall her freshman year, and if she ever needed help moving or carrying something, guys were tripping over each other to help her out. She was something special, and you could tell it from a mile away. That picture does not do her justice. Bill Bates did very well for himself.

Has anyone made a point that uk has a checkerboard print w that whole horse racing thing they do? Why r we so stuck on the checkerboard? Isn't that something that Doug Dickey brought when he took over??? Correct me if I am wrong.... Our end zones look great but why do we have to keep throwing that design out??? Make something ours, do something different for once, orange is a great color and not many teams wear it, so embrace the tradition but change it up a little. Fun never hurt anybody!!!

I get so frustrated with the "tradition" excuse for not overhauling our uniforms. If a college program implements a bad uniform idea...but never makes any major changes for 30 years...then the bad idea becomes a "tradition". All it takes is a few long-tenured coaches who refuse to update the uniforms.

I heard a CBS Radio jockey yesterday preaching "tradition"...and speaking negatively about the current uniform trend being pioneered by many schools. He said that the new concepts are horrible when compared to the traditional simple uniforms.

A few moments later...he admitted to being an Indiana basketball fan. His co-host then commented on how ugly Indiana's candy-striped warmup pants are. The "tradional" jockey became offended...and said that the candy-striped pants were beautiful because of "tradition".

So if those pants had never existed...and Indiana's coach proposed to start wearing new candy-striped pants this year...every traditionalist would be appalled. But they are beautiful because they have been wearing them for many years?

All traditions have a beginning... And I believe Tennessee needs to quit listening to this nonsense...and create new traditions.

It's funny how these "non-traditionalist" are kicking butt all of the sudden. Oregon sucked, became a spectacle with their uniform changes and now are a top 5 program. Kids like the flashy uniforms. It generates interest and income with jersey sales. I can't see a problem.

Why do they need to create new ones? I'm not against them but you sound as bad as those that are totally against any new changes; you sound like you think new "traditions" should be created whether they are needed/wanted or not.
