Agree about Notre Dame and Mizzou. ND is always overrated and Mizzou lost alot. Ole Miss is going to be legit I think, they were pretty good last year and did well in the Portal. They are going to have another Top 10 type squad I think.

I remember when you could pretty much bank on there being five SEC teams in the top 25 at any given point in the season. I guess nine is the new five.

#1 reason - the coaches have a conflict-of-interest incentive to rank certain teams higher/lower based on own team, conference affiliation, common opponents, etc
#2 reason - the coaches do not even fill out the ballots most of the time, some random AD SID (or intern) does the ballot
#3 reason - it's the media's job to actually WATCH and analyze the games...the coaches (or AD office) themselves are only aware of gameday concerning their own teams
#4 reason - anecdotal, but I'm seen enough coaches polls over history to know...they suck! They rank more off of past performance than either poll (last year's work, etc, because they are simply ill-informed) - Clemson & ND being annual recent examples

Actually it’s death, taxes, and people complaining about Notre Dame being overrated in the preseason. Outside of two seasons, they’ve actually been properly rated, or over performed their preseason ranking in the past ten years:

2015 started 11th-finished 11th

2016 started 10th-finished unranked

2017 started unranked-finished 11th

2018 started 12th-finished 5th

2019 started 9th-finished 12th

2020 started 10th-finished 5th

2021 started 9th-finished 8th

2022 started 5th-finished 18th

2023 started 13th-finished 14th

LSU and the best offensive line in the country and a ton a weapons. If Nussmeier is solid and the defense is merely decent, they’ll win 9 games. If the defense is above average, they’re a legit national title contender.

About where I thought UT would start - I was thinking / guessing in the 12 to 16 range across all the polls.
I bet we are a little higher in the AP poll, maybe up around 12 or so.

In this coaches poll, I think Clemson should be behind us, don't understand the love for Utah, and perhaps LSU and Mizzou are a hair too high...but then again put all 5 of those together and you could slot them anywhere in that 12 to 16 area.
Can't wait to get rolling and prove some coaches completely wrong.

They may have us right where we belong…to start the season. Ain’t quite football time…can’t wait!
