I was really hoping that Neyland would come down from upon The Hill up in the Sky and school both of them.

But alas, he didn't. So I pulled for Sparty.

Never, ever cheer for a team that Tennessee has to compete against. Wins usually make it easier for a school to recruit, thus making it harder for Tennessee to beat them.

I wish Alabuba and the swamp lizards nothing but the worst. If Florida was playing the Taliban I would be cheering on Muhammad. That is how much I hate them.

I don't mind pulling for some of the lesser SEC East powers like Kentucky (in football, I mean). I like to see the rivals that are down get better so that it becomes more competitive and creates a more meaningful season.

I pull for all the sec teams in bowl games. Anything that advances the reputation of this conference provides dividends in national recruiting. We have Big10 and Big12 teams trying to attract high school prospects from our backyards now. They want the athletes that have made the sec successful. They want the speed that they lack in the Big10.

Alabama winning the national title will just add to the reputation of the premiere football conference this year coupled with the success of our other conference members, and certainly our Vols played their part.

There are detractors from other conferences that remain very jealous and would encourage us to divide our loyalties and pull against one another. It drives them nuts to hear the "SEC" chant, but it is pure jealousy. Believe it. First, I'm a Vol. Second, I'm proud of the SEC and it's solid reputation. That's all I have to say. :hi:

Those same opposing fans who think the "SEC Pride" mantra is stupid are the first to jump on the SEC "demise" bandwagon. They basked in the SEC's down bowl season last year.

I'd rather see those prospects go to a Big 10 school than Alabama or Florida.

But that's not happening. Very, very few kids from the South leave the South. OSU, ND and Michigan are the only northern schools capable of pulling top tier Southern talent and what they pull is very limited.

Bama or Clemson winning the title hurts us about the same when it comes to recruiting. Both hit GA, FL very heavily and the mid-Atlantic pretty heavily. If we want back in the Carolina's and VA like we were in the 90's, perhaps it's better that Clemson trend down more so than Bama. Also, Bama losing a title game won't hinder their recruiting prowess one bit. At this point, kids know they always have a shot if they go to Bama. Losing the game still means you got there.

Bama is going to have to slip up multiple times in the regular season to keep them out of the discussion before it affects their recruiting.

Probably true, but I can't stomach them winning another NC. Go Clemson!

When a 1-loss Tennessee squad is denied a spot in the playoff, perhaps some of you will change your tune.

At the bare minimum that would require 4 undefeated teams. If Tennessee had 1 loss, assuming it's not the conference championship, they'd be in. It would be near impossible to keep a 1 loss SEC champion out. You'd basically need a team from the Pac 12, ACC, Big 10 and Big 12 to all go undefeated to keep a 1 loss SEC champion out.

You're making my point for me.

Am I? I see virtually zero chance of a team from each of those conferences going undefeated. A 1 loss SEC champion would most likely go over a 1 loss conference champion/team from any other conference. Oklahoma lost to 5-7 Texas, didn't play a conference championship and still got in. I might be missing your point but I for one wouldn't be at all worried about a loss SEC championship getting left out. Alabama losing to Clemson wouldn't change that imo. Clemson's recruiting has been insane in recent years.

I never understood it. "Go SEC!!!!" "Go Bama because conference pride!!"

Yeah, so TN coaches can pitch a recruit "come play at TN where you can have your ass beat by the eventual national/conference champs every single year".

is it really that much worse than "come play at TN where you can have your ass beat by the team that gets their ass beat themselves by Michigan"?

either scenario, we got our ass beat.

Some on here would rather the opponent be weak, crippled or sick so they can win easier. Wow. Dools sure did infect some posters with a long term disease.

Even the Bama fans were shouting "SEC, SEC..." as they whipped Sparty. Did that benefit just Bama? The stronger the conference is the better it is for all of its members. Use some common sense. Just pull for your Vols to be the best of the best.

Why would the SEC go over any other conference?

Perhaps because we're perceived to be a tougher conference? Point being made.

I was at the Bama-Clemson Kickoff game in 2008 and after the beatdown then the chant started. This was the first game coming off of Saban's 7-6 intro season. So Bama had the pride even though they were a team coming off a similar decade as us and used to losing recruits and games to conference foes.

We also seem to be one of the few fanbases in the league that have a problem with this. Most of my buddies are UF alums and I work with many Bama and AU alums/fans who all have no problem seeing the SEC do well.

Like I said, he made my point for me.

It's such an easy concept I don't know why others can't grasp it. Had we had another bowl season like last year our equity would start drying up. The SEC's 7 bowl wins this far are by an avg margin of 26.5 points. We've sent a message this season.

As bad as I hate to, I'm pulling for Bama. After seeing all the crap talk Clemson has said about our Vols this season, I hope Bama drives them through the damn ground! Here's three reasons I'm pulling for Bama. 1. All the crap talk Clemson fans were saying when RB Feaster took a visit to Knoxville a few months back. 2. They couldn't shut they're damn mouths about QB Johnson flipping to them, and they were saying Tee Higgins would flip to them because they are the real WRU. 3. They claim that the ACC is a tougher conference than the SEC, and who couldn't put a good season together, with our cupcake non conference schedule. I really hope that Saban has his boys ready to put a monumental beat down on Clemson in the NC game!

I agree...it's a simple concept for those who think long-term and aren't blinded by rival hatred.

Hell I could almost live with UGA winning it all if it meant keeping the SEC's national reputation front and center.
