Why would the SEC go over any other conference?

Perhaps because we're perceived to be a tougher conference? Point being made.

So if Bama loses the NC, that makes the SEC a weaker conference? Even if every SEC team lost their bowl games this year, do you really think that makes us a weaker conference? Because of one bowl season performance? I mean come on. Now, if there were multiple years of dismal bowl performances, then we may turn into a weaker conference. But thats highly unlikely.

Yeah because a 1 loss SEC champion is gonna be left out of the playoffs. Good lord this comment is beyond stupid.

There's a reason why a 1-loss SEC champion gets into the playoff, which is why hoping SEC teams lose their bowl games (or any OOC game for that matter) is beyond stupid.

If Bama were to lose in the playoff, for the second straight year, in what appears to be a watered down SEC relative to the 2006-2012 NC teams, then the national perception is the SEC is weaker...right or wrong.

If everyone except UT loses, all the time (like you want to see) then WTF do you think happens?

As long as Tn wins, I do not care what other teams do or do not do. If we win National Championship others can say "well look who they play" all they want, it counts the same imo.

The point being made is if we have a loss and the conference is perceived as weak, we won't have the opportunity to play for a title. That's the debate. If you go undefeated in a P5 conference it's a moot point. But that hasn't happened in the SEC since 2011. The reason the SEC routinely gets 1 loss teams and even a 2 loss team (in 2007) in the title is because of the strength of the conference. Ask 11-1 Baylor or 11-1 TCU how it felt to be in the playoffs last year?

11-1 Ohio St played in the weakest conference last year according to perception. They won the whole thing. Oklahoma made it this year even though they're from the same conference as Baylor and TCU, but then again OU is a traditional power while Baylor and TCU are not. A 1 loss SEC team will be just fine as long as it's Alabama, Auburn, LSU, UF, UT, or UGA. If it's Mizzou or SCjr or Miss St maybe not so much. It's more about team perception than conference perception.

OU got in this year because the P12 champ had 2 losses. If Stanford had beaten NW, no way OU is in. OSU got in because they at least at attempted to play a decent P5 team out of conference (almost backfired on them by losing). As long as UT, UF, LSU, Bama, AU and USC play another P5 team out of conference like they always do we'll likely be fine with 1 loss.

However, it was believed that had UF finished 12-1 this year they might be left out. I don't believe they would've been worthy based on the eye test but if they had beaten FSU and Bama with the only loss being a TD on the road to LSU I'm not sure how can you could've keep them out. For 2 loss Stanford or non-conference champ OSU?

As bad as I hate to, I'm pulling for Bama. After seeing all the crap talk Clemson has said about our Vols this season, I hope Bama drives them through the damn ground! Here's three reasons I'm pulling for Bama. 1. All the crap talk Clemson fans were saying when RB Feaster took a visit to Knoxville a few months back. 2. They couldn't shut they're damn mouths about QB Johnson flipping to them, and they were saying Tee Higgins would flip to them because they are the real WRU. 3. They claim that the ACC is a tougher conference than the SEC, and who couldn't put a good season together, with our cupcake non conference schedule. I really hope that Saban has his boys ready to put a monumental beat down on Clemson in the NC game!

I have heard similar comments from them. Also they think Bama is not a good team and overrated. Their fans are plan out obnoxious and you only hear from them when they are good. I'm cheering to see them lose badly.

I think Clemson is in for a rude awakening! IMO the SEC is the best conference inside the trenches, and I just can't see Clemson holding up late in the game when Bama keeps pounding the Big Eaters with a 250 pound Derrick Henry coming right behind them! The Spartans found out real fast what SEC football is about! Championships are won at the line of scrimmage, that's why the SEC keeps adding trophys year in and year out!

If a "Vol fan" lives in TN or even the south....how are you more fed up with ppl up north or mid west bragging?

What about the bammers and their conditional fake fans bragging that lives on TN soil next door to you? I hope bammer loses every game!!!!!

I'm just proud of the SEC! I always have and always will pull for the our conference. Look at how we went 8-2 in the bowl season this year. I love listening to other fans and coaches, complain about the SEC all the time. I think it's funny, listening to everyone say that our conference is top heavy. I think we proved them wrong once again, that the SEC is big boy football!

Nobody gets that champ trophy except for bammer.....if they win.

No way would a bammer or gator want TN to fill their case up with champ trophies.....no way

You'd be wrong.

I was the biggest UT fan the night you guys played FSU for the national title.

Ditto for LSU, Auburn and Alabama when they represented the conference.

A lot of SEC fans enjoy seeing other SEC teams win their bowl games at minimum. I'm from FL and most of my friends from home are UF alums and because of my work territory most of my clients are Auburn, Bama, Miss St or UK alums and they're all glad to see us getting back. Numerous ones texted me before and after the OU game wishing luck and then condolences. Our fanbase seems to have a disdain for conference foes more so than any of the other fanbases. Maybe because we've been down we're jaded.

Jonathan Allen of Bama said that no matter what, an SEC team has to win the playoffs. He said if Bama's not in it one year, then they want another SEC team in there carrying on the tradition.

I try to root for Alabama; then I talk to Bama fans and that plan goes to crap.

Maybe I should try to talk to some Clemson fans right before kickoff.

They'll make you like Bama lol. My year of grad school at Clemson was miserable from a sports standpoint. I attended the Clemson-Bama kickoff game in ATL in 2008 wearing my Clemson attire, by halftime I was pulling for Bama. Only ended up going to like 2 Clemson home games that year after buying season tickets. Instead, I drove the 3 hrs to Knoxville every weekend.

Agree on Clemson fans, they're eerily close to being as rabid as Bama fans, minus anything tangible to show for it. I hope Alabama wipes the floor with them next Monday.

I'm also over Dabo Swinney playing the "no respect" and "everyone doubted us" card after every win. The playoff committee's had Clemson ranked #1 for over a month now.

It would suck to see Bama win but either way it won't really impact recruiting for us. They are already a dynasty. We don't need another neighbor (Clemson) winning a title.

You get it...we also don't need the ACC winning a second national title in three years.

No.

There is a trend.. My Memphis buddies have a disdain for Ole Miss. My Atlanta buddies view UGA as obno. I hardly ever come across Clemson fans in my world. Bama surrounds me all day and it is nice when they quit crowing.

If you think we recruit more against Clemson than Bama, I think you are wrong. Seems many just concede to Saban and recruiting. If we are going to ever be a championship caliber team, we need to be able to put together a better story and get those recruits that normally would go to Bama. Every loss they get chips away at their swag and benefits us.
