Vols hire Chaney per Multiple Sources

You aren't educating anyone. I never said DT was here in 2013. He was here for Chaney's last year, 2012. My POINT WAS CHANEY only had one OL go in the first seven rounds of the NFL the whole time Chaney was here. My main point was Chaney did a great job considering UT wasn't stacked with 4/5 star OL's due to Fulmer, Kiffin, and especially Dooley not recruiting any to help the OL that Chaney had when OC at UT!!!

You said Butch's first year had no elite OL, that's why the other guy asked if you were being serious. Maybe you miscommunicated your point, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

But that means you are denying the existence of:

Chris Scott
Jacques McClendon
Ja'Wuan James
Zach Fulton

and don't forget Tiny would have easily been draftes if not for injuries.

It's like you're denying the existence of the 2012 OL. It had 3 guys drafted, Tiny should have been a 4th, and Stone has played in the NFL ever since then after being undrafted. It was elite, both in talent and production.

LOOK! Another Dawg is posting here over it and this is just the 2nd post ever... and we are supposed to believe these guys don't give a $hit? You wouldn't be here if you didn't care.
I don’t post often, but I am here quite often. It is always good to see what the other SEC east teams are up to.

I see your point. You have no reason to trust my opinion. However, I was just trying to give a different perspective. Chaney is a good OC, and I thank him for his time at UGA, but I just don’t think he can get you where you want your program to be. Chaney has failed to make adjustments. At LSU, he failed to make adjustments when LSU disguised coverages pre-snap and Fromm struggled. Likewise, in both Bama games, we scored exactly 7 points in each third quarter and none in the fourth quarter. Chaney tried to kill the clock with 8 minutes left in the third. That is never a good plan.

He will help you guys. He will get you back in the top 15, but he will falter against the elite defenses. 3 years from now, I think you will agree.

Ah. The sound of UGA fan passive aggressiveness. They excel at that. And whining.

Where are GreysonDawg and the other buttsniffers? Those guys take passive aggressive condescension to a whole new level. This current batch is very C level.

When Smart hired Chaney, GreysonDawg chimes in to educate us on why it was a great hire for them...even tho he had actually COACHED for us. Wonder if that party line changed any? 😏

They have the money. What were you going to spend it on?

Ever ran a business? You don't spend wastefully, you spend market amounts. He made 950k last year, surely we could get him for less. He just isn't a top 8 coordinator. Though this isn't half as bad as 1.2m for Helton. That was truly insane.

Well to some he’s not the flashy hire they wanted but I’m pleased with it and he’s a heck of a lot better than I expected us to end up with at this point. He is exactly what Pruitt wants in an OC and it’s been shown that he can put up points on Bama.

I was happy with the Os he put on the field his previous tenure, especially the last year with Bray when we were putting up pretty good points but our D allowed the opposition to put up video game numbers.

My only real concern is it CJP will give him complete control. He’s shown he knows how to put up points in the SEC, but will CJP let him do what is needed or will he demand we continue this run, run, throw, punt O we ran this past year. Our best games were when we opened up the O and aired it out more but it was clear that CJP didn’t want that and wanted to be a run first, run second and only throw if have Too O, which will get us exactly what we got last year.

Your perspective is appreciated... Every fan base (including ours), says "didn't like him anyway" whenever a coach makes a lateral move or a player transfers out. I guess I get tired of seeing it... but I was a little hard on you. Please post more.

Well! Have you forgot about Pruitt? I think I’ve already told a Georgia fan that Pruitt is a different animal when it comes to defense. Geeeze.
Chaney puts up the points
Pruitt shuts teams down
Ding ding ding...winner.

Penny pinching lands great hires. Ask @VolunteerHillbilly 😉

That's from the business perspective but not the employee that has more worth than what a company is offering. He wouldn't leave a top program for less unless he truly loves the place or knows he will be HC in-waiting. Seeing as we're not a top 8 team or even a top 25 team, seems like a solid choice.

Good post, you did educate me here. It is evident Chaney had talent in 2012. But, Scott and McClendon left in 2009. That was Chaney's second most productive year. So, maybe we can both agree Chaney was effective at OC in 2009 and 2012 when he had his most effective OLs. Tiny wasn't a starter until 2012 as a SOPHOMORE. I am not saying he wasn't good. But, MOST LINEMAN are definitely better their Junior and Senior years after two full years of S & C. Trey Smith and a few other ELITE ones are the exception to this rule. Fulton started in 2011 and 2012, Chaney's last two years. James was a starter as a FRESHMAN while Chaney was there in 2010 through 2012, James' Jr year. Basically, Chaney had at least 2 very good OLs the whole time he was there with 2012 being the best OL roster he had. That was his most productive year as an OC. I think Chaney did do more with less in 2009 and it isn't like we were terrible offensively in 2010, middle of the road. The offense was terrible in 2011. Since, you are the expert. Why was it terrible in 2011?

He ran on 2/3 of 1st downs this year, just like we did. IF he was running what he wanted at UGA, then his mindset might be very similar to what we saw last year.

Yeah, Chaney is the reason for the terribly called fake punt, Fromm not performing on a high level as usual, Swift fumbling the ball, and the D making Hurts look like Trevor Lawrence with much faster wheels in the 4th quarter!

What a mature and classy post. This doesn't reek of sour grapes at all. If you don't care anything about losing Chaney, then why the hell are you posting to a thread on a rival's site about it at 11:31 PM on a Tuesday night?

...and by the way, Coley was NOT your OC. Jim Chaney called the plays.

not to mention they opened the bank to keep him and he still came our way.
