Vols hire Chaney per Multiple Sources

Fans vs coaches. The raise would suggest they wanted. The fact that theu didn't match suggests they had limits to how much they cared.

Fans are split imo. A lot of "wow..." and "what is happening?" posts, but certainly not a meltdown and some are quite happy and want someone that is creative.

We don’t know what they offered do we? Bottom line is he’s proven. He knows how to win in the league. His offenses at UGA have been top tier. You have to pay up to get that caliber of a coach in the SEC...especially when you poach him from a rival in your division. This was nothing short of a coup. This could’ve gone a number of different ways. Fans should be ecstatic IMO.

I work with a bunch of Dawg fans and I can assure you they are elated. I still think it's a good hire though, most Dawg fans are idiots.
It's gotta be tough to be a dawg fan, have that immense wealth of in-state talent, and to not have won any Nattys from it. If roles were reversed I might get a little hostile also. But I would never bark at someone, that's lock-me-up-in-a-turtle-shell-I'm-suicidal insane. I also think this a good hire.

Whoa, whoa. Get real Train! Tee was a great QB, all the way. Of course we had a great D, but Tee was a leader and a clutch player. He dropped dimes when needed and took off running when needed. Don't forget.

Now that this is cleared up. Anyone posting TOTAL OFFENSE stats doent understand a thing. Total O is crap. All it represents is Total Yards. The difference between Georgia at 18 and OK ST at 10 is 35 yards/game. Do you think the slack ass Big 12 D's could make up for that? Do you think Georgia killing clock in the 4th could have an effect at that? If you want the truth, dig deeper. Georgia #1 SEC rushing O. Top 20 in the country in most every other category. Either way, like Swain says. The coach's job is to put the players in the best position, but it ain't about x's and the o's, but the Jimmy's and the Joe's.

Sorry but his numbers were average. We were what 77th in passing? We had a very good run game with an elite defense. Funny how thats what Saban wins with. The furst year he truly has an elite offense, he didnt win.

They won one, 38 years ago, lol.

For sure better than this year with the 3 yard outs on 3rd and 9

I thought we did pretty well in that area this year. Mostly passes to Callaway right past the sticks. Completed 57% of passes on 3rd and 7-9 yards to go, averaging 14.5 yards a completion. Doesn't reflect many short passes.

As usual, all implications without substance, blowing hot air is what you do best. Were you behind the scenes with both teams to know UGA didn't match? NO!!! Everyone has stated how much Chaney likes Knoxville. Maybe he dislikes Kirby as much as Kirby dislikes him. Maybe UGA matched the offer and Chaney thought, "Nah, I like East TN better, Pruitt better, Fulmer better as AD, and y'all should have paid me more before UT came calling!". You don't know squat!!!

Don't be so angry brother lol. We're all just guessing how this hire went down. Did I suggest anything as fact and not opinion? That's a message board is for haha. Ease up

Let me just throw this out there as well if you don't know Chaney's resume. He has a lot of OLine and QB coaching experience. Those are two areas where we need all the coaching we can get.
No one doubts his experience, just his expertise/excellence. His end goal is putting up points and that's the concern.

Hopefully CJP utilizes Osovet or someone else to help innovate. Surely he didn't pick the minds of all those innovative coaches, only to go with one od the least creative guys out there. He's pretty good and has plenty of experience. He just needs someone to help innovate and think outside the box.

This is what you typed, "The fact that theu didn't match suggests they had limits to how much they cared.". A FACT IS NOT AN OPINION. Didn't you learn that in elementary school? Guess not! I am not angry at all. I am just tired of seeing all your NEGATIVE POSTS WITH NO SUBSTANCE OR PROOF!!! Yes, this is an opinon board. But, you contstantly post negative things with SKEWED and INCOMPLETE STATS only SHOWING the STATS that SPIN THE NARRATIVE YOUR WAY. This has been proven by me and others SEVERAL TIMES!!! I am done going back and forth with you. You are completely naive at times and will never admit to being wrong about anything. Most of us on this board will at least admit when we are wrong and don't try to skew stats or some things of little substance our way to try and get others to agree with our way of thinking. You would do well in politics!!!

To be fair, it has been reported UGA wouldn’t match the offer. Has more to do with financial constraints from others on the staff like Pittman/McGee/Coley than Kirby not wanting him. Still a solid hire for Tennessee.
““This move is about money for Jim,” a source close to the situation said late Tuesday night. “Jim’s nearing retirement and it’s a chance for him to make a significant amount more than Kirby (Smart) was willing to pay him to stay.””

Damn straight. I believe Pruitt and Fulmer were determined to make a solid hire. And they did.

Bunch of y'all, and you know who you are, can sick my duck. Lol.
Seent...so that’s OFFICIAL? 😉

UNC 2011. Chaney didnt have his big year here until Pittman came.

Pittman came the first year of Dooley's tenure (Chaney's second year). The OL had TWO WALKON'S Chaney's first year. There you go again trying to spin the narrative your way!!! Your lack of competence and knowledge (primarily by omitting facts on purpose) never ceases to amaze me!!! LOL

Edited 11:37 CST, 1/8/19

Ok, I told you I would admit when I was wrong. I am wrong. Pittman was as UNC Chaney's second and third year. Chaney's O did have the most points at UT in 2012. But, Chaney's second best ppg was very solid in 2009 with two walkon's on the OL. Also, how many 4/5 OLs did Chaney have the entire time at UT???

Chaney will STILL BE PROVEN TO BE A GREAT HIRE!!! =)

LOLOLOLOL. you so funneee....

I don't expect to be popular with this opinion. Most of the folks on this site just wanted CJP to hire ANYONE remotely successful. And we got him..

Meanwhile, go back and watch that juggernaut of an offense Cheney led at UGa against Auburn last year 1st game, this year against LSU, and his last debacle against Texas.

Plus, he did get some time to develop a good game plan last year in the NC against Bama--and choked it away in the 4th QTR.
Repeated it again in SEC championship this year.

Cheney pads his numbers against also-ran teams and gets owned by elite DCs with better talent.
You'll see. And I will say that I told you so.

We've already seen his schtick here. Do you know how to watch film?

So we're only going to judge a guy on his worst games? Look at UGA vs Auburn last year, but only the first game? lol that's fair, shame on him for adjusting for the 2nd game. Nobody's perfect, just have to judge them on their full body of work.
