Its not an excuse. Its just a fact. They still didn't execute as well as they could have though. We've ran like 6 plays and a base defense. We aren't showing anything. Two things can be true at once.Wouldn't a players only meeting for problems rule out the "we haven't opened up the play book" excuse?
Listening to a segment by Dave Hooker this morning, they discussed that the football program held a players only meeting on Sunday that was spearheaded by the leadership on the team.
Apparently JM3 took responsibility for the dropped passes in a positive light, no pointing fingers, and all players have agreed its time to amp it up to a whole new level, as they admitted this past week was pretty laid back.
Hopefully this refocuses the team and they get back to keeping their heads on straight. I do believe this is a positive and shows the true leadership the team possesses.
this can be interpreted a few different ways. Either it’s a positive and shows good leadership or it’s a sign for trouble having a meeting 2 games in while sitting 2-0. I lean towards leadership
Then why isn’t there a “players only meeting” before every game with every team? When I played baseball for Belmont in the 90s, we had a players only meeting after a few tough games and lackluster performances. We subsequently came out the next day and beat our opponent 22 to 1. These things can be very positive.
Not necessarily, to beat VA or Austin Peay he didn't have to open up the playbook. He limited it and it would have worked with the results. Even the Tempo changed at times. The dropped passes did not help. We you run the same a screen pass to the wide part of the field 6 times in a row, please do tell me that is all we got. How many deep throws were thrown? 1 or 2. No he did not open up the playbook because he did not have to do so against AP. FL will tell and maybe it will not but he has got more in store.IMO, this kills the whole "Heupel didn't open the playbook garbage. The players know the performance wasn't up to the standard. These meetings can be productive if you have strong leadership on the team. Otherwise, things can tend to go sideways.
