Vols hold players only meeting

not sure what to make of this. Some of Milton's comments in the post-game press conference could be taken to imply that receivers were taking plays off or not giving full effort, so that could have led to some internal strife and recriminations.

Coaches usually like it and see it as a good sign when the team leaders take charge after a lackluster game as this one. I see this as the team holding each other accountable for a poor performance. Those speculating there are issues are off base with this one.

Whoever said players only meetings are a sign of bad things don’t know what they’re talking about. We are just hearing about this one. If you think Georgia didn’t have have a players only meeting after Missouri you’re an idiot. The best teams I’ve ever been on had players only meetings after bad wins and bad loses. It shows you care and won’t let it happen again. You should be more concerned if the players just brushed it off and acted like they didn’t care. This means they are meeting issues head on and have vowed as a team to not let it happen again. The players on out meetings are bad narratives have always pissed me off. Every team has them you just never hear about them.

I think some people are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. These guys know what they can do. Saturday wasn't it. We got caught sleeping a little and our focus wasn't on the task. I look for this team to have a spark this Saturday. I would say this meeting was more about who they are, what they can do and to leave the outside noise outside. That means media, our own fans etc. Go Vols

this can be interpreted a few different ways. Either it’s a positive and shows good leadership or it’s a sign for trouble having a meeting 2 games in while sitting 2-0. I lean towards leadership
No matter how it's spun, the fact that this was deemed necessary 2 games into the season is...well...disconcerting.

Wouldn't a players only meeting for problems rule out the "we haven't opened up the play book" excuse?

Or............if they can't execute the vanilla offense to perfection, they have a lot to fix before they open up the play book?

Anyone who has been watching this team knows there have been trouble. The fact that the players recognize it and trying to address it is encouraging.

This team just needs to stay unified. Florida is going to hit us with everything they got. Think the Austin Peay game will be a blessing long term for this game but maybe being too much of a homer.

And hearing about this one probably isn't a "leak" from inside the building. Reporters know what they can and can't say (if they ever want info again) and no one runs a tighter locked down program when it comes to the press than Danny White.

This almost certainly didn't "slip through the cracks" and get reported. People beyond the players approved this getting out. If it DID slip through the cracks, Danny White will be kicking butts and taking names.

Listening to a segment by Dave Hooker this morning, they discussed that the football program held a players only meeting on Sunday that was spearheaded by the leadership on the team.

Apparently JM3 took responsibility for the dropped passes in a positive light, no pointing fingers, and all players have agreed its time to amp it up to a whole new level, as they admitted this past week was pretty laid back.

Hopefully this refocuses the team and they get back to keeping their heads on straight. I do believe this is a positive and shows the true leadership the team possesses.
It wasn’t in the locker room, right?

Having a meeting to get your teams mind right after a luck luster performance isnt a bad thing. People need to stop taking a page out of TB's playbook. This is a good sign imo.

Well this ain’t good
If reports are true about Milton's comments, I can see why it created some friction with his receivers especially if he's a bit off with his accuracy like he was saturday. Time will tell if his mea culpa will heal things. I'm sure he's feeling some pressure after his last outing. Combine that with his comments about not losing in Florida, and I expect Milton is feeling a considerable amount of pressure going into this one. Heupel and co will have a helluva time keeping things light and trying to keep Milton from being too worked up going into this one. Hope he can handle this pressure and this stage well. Feel for the guy. Games like this are supposed to be fun. Having all this additional chit to deal with just stinks.

If they don’t stack the box it could be death by a thousand paper cuts gashing them with Wright, Small and Sampson or the quick hitters to the boundary.

If I’m Florida I stack the box and make Milton beat them over the top. I think we run a few plays early that have led to big gains in the pastthat are easy throws. We hit Florida on one to McCoy last year and we hit UK twice on the same play to Hyatt. Easy throws and reads and get Joe’s confidence up.
I think they'll stack the box to stop the run and blitz like crazy on passing plays.

Not this crap. Players only meetings mean there is drama. I DON'T CARE WHO IS INVOLVED, GET THOSE INVOLVED IN THE TRANSFER PORTAL NOW. This never goes well. If this is true, which I hope its not, don't expect much this season.
The AP game was rough in many different ways. The DRAMA was that game and all that went with it.

Sometimes you just need to get together to shake it off and move on.

Players meetings can mean anything as serious as a fractured team or as mild as talking about poor preparation. Unless someone talks... we don't know what this one was about.

IMO, this kills the whole "Heupel didn't open the playbook garbage. The players know the performance wasn't up to the standard. These meetings can be productive if you have strong leadership on the team. Otherwise, things can tend to go sideways.
Both can be true.

Eh, I’ve never seen these “players only” meetings turn in to anything more than message board discussions.

Hope I’m wrong, but real life doesn’t work like the movies.
You’re absolutely right, if we are going to turn this thing around we have to take accountability and have a Vol Nation posters only meeting. I think we can fix this.
