Derek Lance had a nice SAC bunt in the bottom of the ninth, with the Steam trailing 2-1. The runner he moved, ended up tying the game. Lance also made a diving catch to end the 10th.

Lance goes 0-4, with a sac bunt...they end up winning the game 4-3 in the bottom of the 11th.

The Bucs have tied the game in the top of the 5th, 4-4. So far, Simcox has walked twice, popped up once, scored two runs and has been stellar defensively. Stewart has walked and had a SAC Fly RBI, and will be leading off in the Bottom of the 5th.

Bucs with a 3 run homer, take the lead 7-4, going to bottom of 5th, with Stewart coming to the plate for the Miners.

Miners lose 10-7. Simcox had a triple, scored 3 runs, drew 2 walks, Stewart drew a walk, a sac fly RBI...both made some tremendous defensive plays. Patience at the plate was great, real good at bats.

vol66, how long do these leagues last? Normally, Serrano wants all of his players in summer school to begin workouts. That would necessitate having the players back for the start of classes around the first week of July.

Dude I'm a diehard baseball fan...SERIOUS. From being heavily involved at the youth level to being extremely loyal to the Vols. it crushed me when the smokies left town. I wonder how Knoxville likes being the only major city in the state without a minor league team?

Well anyway....in no way do I have time to do what you do on here. If I had time I don't know if I would do it anyway. But your efforts and updates are GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Well, I think the easiest way to say it is , it varies. Looks like most seasons end the last week of July, however, the Cape Cod League goes through mid-august. Those teams participating in the NBC World Series in Wichita, could go as long as the last week of August, if they last until the championship game.

I don't know if any provisions are made, for instance, Will Maddox, currently with the CCL, is invited to USA baseball tryouts in early July. Should he make the team, he'd be doing that until the last week of July. Surely, if he made the team, he'd participate.

The real answer to your question is I don't know. In large part, what happens when the players leave after the SEC is complete was a mystery for me, which is why I've set out on this endeavor. Whether I have the stamina the players do remains to be seen.:)

I should also add, this experience, purely from a baseball stand point HAS to be a great thing. Some guys are playing every single day, some of these teams are run like minor league teams, for instance the Northwoods League. It seems like an incredible opportunity.

I'm with you about the Smokies. Sad day for me when we lost the team, that was one of my favorite summertime activities, getting to take the occasional lunch break in order to see a day game was great!

I'm glad somebody is keeping up, I was beginning to wonder.

One of the things that frustrates me about baseball is the lack of info available. I realize the folks at UT are probably stretched pretty thin, and I realize that there's not a lot of interest in baseball, so why bother doing this kind of work.

Especially frustrating is recruiting. It seems like to me you have to subscribe to Perfect Game or BA, in order to know ANYTHING about commits or signing classes. I think we should have our baseball classes '13, '14, '15 stickied with links which has been suggested, but someone would have to step up to 1. provide the info and 2. keep it updated.

What I'm trying to do in following the summer leagues is to get some idea of what happens leading to the inevitable purge. Trying to get a sense of what progress is made by guys like Simcox and VJax between their Freshman and Sophomore years. A guy like Taylor Smart getting a shot to make a CCL team is also fun to watch.

If I had to pin it down to one reason for the effort it is this. Football and both men's and women's basketball coverage is year around. Baseball dies at the end of baseball season and that sucks for the few of us who want to know what is going on with the team.

Great post. I felt the Smokies deserved a new stadium IMO in West Knoxville. I think in the Pellissippi Parkway area would have been a hit. That would be pretty accessible for Blount and Anderson Counties. Blount County is growing like crazy. And I think Loudon County is the next place to completely explode in the next 15-20 years, jmo. Farragut and Hardin Valley...that's a thriving area.

And yes I'm shocked at how hard it is find updated info on recruiting. It's rediculous!

I think Simcox is gonna be a super solid SEC player. As will Stewart and Jackson is the obvious one. Next year will be an improved team.
