Obviously I haven't been around here much lately, lurked a few times but that's about it.

I just couldn't help but notice how absent a few (and I do mean a very few) of the hyper-negative posters are after the big win.

I imagine after the first close game or loss they'll be back with a vengeance.

I suppose that's the main reason I haven't been around much. I have a pretty low threshold for arrogance and negativity, especially when the tone is so hateful.

It's a real shame too. For the most part, this board is packed full with courteous, respectful and knowledgeable posters.

Best Regards to all the great Vols here.

I don't think criticizing the Vols is negative or disrespectful. Especially after a really bad season that included a loss to Vandy. People will complain if there is something worth complaining about. If things keep going well this year, no one will have anything to complain about.

amen kp, there was a lot to be critical about. and hey, it has only been one game. I love my son unconditionally but when he grows older and does the kinds of things that go against my expectations and what I have taught him, he is going to hear about it. back to the vols, they were crisp, especially for an opener, and full of piss and vinegar; which is all a lot of us have ever asked for. and yes I have been called negative on this board. that being said, keep it up vols!!!!!!

and another thing, when you look at how well the offense played, and I am talking about no stupid penalties, no wasted time outs for missalignments, etc... it really underscores what ut has been missing for years. but hey, they were winning so everything was lollypops and icecream. when people complained, they were labeled negative.....BRILLIANT!!!

We already had this discussion. Picking somebody to win is different from actually hoping for them to win.

That being said . . . How in the world did those people not think Cal was overrated? :p

picking against your own team, ,hmmmmm i would pick tennessee over anyone any day of the month bc i always believe in tthem but hell let em pick who they want, even if tennessee were to go 0-9 (although that would not happen) and then play the #1 team i would still pick tennessee but i guess everyone has their diff opinion

If you were a gambling man, you would not be posting this, because you would have to sell your computer, along with your house and car to pay off your debt.

I have no problem at all saying Chavis, Cutcliffe, and Fulmer did an outstanding job Saturday.

Same here. I posted my (positive) comments in another thread, and I happen to be one of those who was very critical of last year's team...and head coach. One of y'all used the word "crisp" in your observations of the Cal game, and I think that word best sums up what I saw. Crisp.

IMO, part of being a fan means being able to face the unpleasant reality that your team isn't living up to it's potential. Such was the case last year. I know it's only one game, but if the Vols stay "crisp", the reality of this year will be much, much more pleasant than last.

Go Vols.

Ever stop to think that all the people who have been raising cane since last season may have lit a fire under some butts, which is a least in part responsible for any improvement we see this season? All you Fulmerites should pucker-up and give those of us who you have branded as negative a big ole' kiss of thanks right on the keister.

I don't like picking the Vols, is that good enough for you?

For what its worth, which doesn't look like it'll be much as far as you're concerned, even though I picked Cal, I posted several times that I thought the Vols could and would win. I feel like I jinx them whenever I pick them, so I didn't.

Also, if I had submitted my picks for the VN pick'em later in the week when I became convinced that Cal was overrated, I would've picked the Vols... as I did over at SECF, in the guess the score thread here, and at Yahoo! in their pick'ems thing.

I'm sure CPF was really worried about what you thought about him. He is smart enough to know that last yr was not acceptable, without the the input of Sunday morning QBs.

You didn't pick the Vols!?!?! You obviously aren't a true Vol fan. How dare you post on this board.

I agree. I doubt Fulmer worried about gripes from people on boards. I would think he would worry more about loss of respect from other teams and coaches and the impact on bringing in top players.
