i mean lack of commits lately. what i was trying to say is last year there was alot of optimism around the team and the new staff you could feel the momentum. this year just doesn't seem to have the same feel with all the negative pub. we still have 7 recruits to be filled maybe 8 if willis decommits. that really doesn't look like we have filled up. auburn on the other hand they are just about done. just my opinion. do you really think we can land the number 1 class in the country this year? i like the optimism, but i think more like 5-8 somewhere in there sounds right to me. so i guess what you are saying is that the distractions off the field will cause no impact and all is well. thats your opinion and i can respect that. i hope your right.
You're letting the media influence your perception of the facts. Fact is we're much farther along than we were last year and we still have an all star staff that will finish strong. We have a better coaching staff right now than we did last year, the staff is proven in the SEC moreso this year than last, and we soon will have a Bowl victory hopefully.

Champyvol: Look at your avatar and rate it excluding the numbers 1,2,9,and 10. That is your ranking of our recruiting. Then if it (recruiting ranking) You'll still be able to same damn fine anyway. is one of the excluded numbers you will still be happy.

It was to champy's understanding that there would be no math on this board!

I personally think we end in the top 5, but definitely not 1 or 5, or 5+1, or 1-5, 5-1 is a possibility, but not 5-1+1, or 5-1+5, or 1+1+5, 1 to the 2nd or 3rd power are out of the question, and definitely not 1x5, 5x1, 1/5, 5/1, or 5x0.

I have wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much time on my hands today!

I agree...

+1 On this ! I agree on this one. What does it matter what we are ranked as long as we get the recruits that fit what we are trying to do.

With the CUM Flip-Flop going on I am sure that CLK and CEO will go and grab a few that are on the fence for Florida down there.

As long as we get the players that fit our system. And the players we need. not sure that i care about our rankings.

+1 - i'm happy if we get the best players available to us at the positions we need to fill. quality position depth is more important to me than recruiting rankings. factors such as academic standing, injuries, position changes, and coaching changes limit the reliability of recruiting rankings.

hubbs was asked point blank if he thought the vols would land a top 5 class and he gave a strait forward "yes" which he very rarely does...

obviously he knows that UT is involved with several high profile players and likely to land atleast a few of them...

Got Ocu got Jackson and got Brown after signing day last year. Kiffin will get a few suprises this year also. Some may leave that are commited but they will be replaced by better talent.

Our negative pub pales in comparison to UFs. And no, I don't think 2 girls going to a high school football game will affect our recruiting...

No, I don't think we will land the #1 class. It is gonna be wide open for the taking though. Texas is pretty much full. There's no way UF gets the #1 class now. USC and OU are possibilities. Bama could sneak in with the #1 class yet again. So could UT, but we would have to get very lucky to get that high...

We will finish somewhere in the 3-7 range imo and I think we would have to be pretty unlucky to fall to #7. When you start adding in guys to the rankings that we look good with, we climb fast...

i can agree with all that. florida's situation is in my opinion alot worse than ours is. the media and the ncaa really seem to be screwing us over on this one, there should be a investigation into that.

Or they could look into LSU where a coach supposedly gave money to a recruit and had to resign over it a few weeks ago...

But you don't hear about that. You hear about 2 girls going to a high school football game with a sign...

We lost Ken Adams to LSU. Not a huge loss. Kind of expected since Frank Wilson was related to him.

Things will look a lot better after the two all star games. Think we get one or two both weekends.

I'm not freaking out but I do have to wonder, why the decommitments? I know it's just a part of recruiting but what is the issue here? Why are unable to hold onto these commitments?

dude....im not trying to be a jerk....but is this your first recruiting season? decommitts happen all the time at every school for various reasons. These kids change their mind all the time for whatever reason or the school stops recruiting them so hard because they have a better prospect lined up. This is what is happening to us right now....we are in the running for a bunch of top players and have to have room.....plus im not really sure what decommitts you are talking about ....we have not really lost anyone with significant value other than cobbs who simply changed his mind to texas...we replaced him with thompkins who is much much faster. jose jose blew up to 380lbs and cant move, harris and broussard had grade problems that we all knew about, and the only reason we offered adams was to get menzie....when menzie was not an option anymore we backed off of adams. This is just how it goes...recruiting is not for the faint of heart. With this staffs ability to close i have no doubt that they will finish with a top three class

IMO GV57 stated it very well. :good!:

The only thing I would add is that Adams' decommit should be viewed as a plus for us, not a minus. We now have 7 more slots to fill with top recruits instead of 6.
