Vols post perfect 1000 APR.

Sure, you want a good enough score so there's no NCAA issues. And it's nice that the players are going to class and stuff, like they're supposed to.

But beyond that, it's not like we're competing against Vandy and Duke for scholars here.

And then there's the guy that compains about everything. Even our scores going up? Wow....this is great news.

That was sort of my point.

I think Sudden Impact's point is also valid, but not in the short term.

If 3-4 years from now UT is winning games against rivals, staying out of trouble, going to class, etc. then this will be a program all Vol fans will be very proud of.

Does it give us a recruiting advantage at the present? I'm not sold on that.

Thanks for the endorsement.

Some fans have no clue what they want and only interpret a program's success based on W/Ls on the field.

If you build it they will come. They use to come no matter what. Times have changed. We are going to be blessed by building a Total Program versus a program that football players just hang out at for 3-4 years to wait on a NFL contract.

The difference is that CBJ and staff are Talking the Talk but they are also Walking it and delivering it. This is in total contrast to the previous 2.25 coaches.

Yea they do get it. It is time to support versus questioning. In doing so we keep the NCAA out of our back yard sort of speak.

Can you have a smart academic Scholar lights out football playing junkie. The answer is yes and CBJ is going to show you how.

Can we run a clean program the answer is yes.

Can we keep 5* 4* 3* athletes happy by providing them challenges and setting or raising the standards? Yes

This program has been under all the scrutiny it can handle for all the wrong reasons. It's time for a change and we are witnessing it. Live with it. Will this process produce wins and prominence restored Chances are it will.

We raised our APR from 912 - 920 to 960. That improvement is an indication of where this program was headed.

Where's the Fulmer cup? We were the winners and the reason for it's existence. Off field attitude. Kiffin's goal was to win this every year and Dooley had no clue.

Kids want structure, Challenges, Standards and goals. They want action by leaders to facilitate for them to reach those goals. CBJ and staff are doing just that.

Some are worried about the down the road recruiting, I believe we will be turning down 4* recruits in the future if not already.

This Staff is the total package. As a fan give it time.
The best words out of CBJ to players is "For them to do their jobs to the best of their abilities and that the Coach will deal with the problems beyond their control.

Teaching Responsibility and Accountability goes beyond the football field.

UT is measured against Bama, UF, UGA, LSU, & Auburn...the traditional powers. Do you think the academic side is a "true" advantage? I would hope so, but the counterpoint is winning.
As a parent, I can tell you hell yes it matters. And the recruits that you actually want, you know the ones with the maturity and intelligence to look at every aspect of what a program has to offer are going to look at that.

OK so I posted this in another thread but...

I know that our coaches are paid to win ball games but let me tell you something, after hearing THIS news I don't care if we win another ball game this year (OK, yeah I do but you get the point!) What these young men have managed to accomplish academically under the leadership of this coaching staff is fantastic and should NOT by any means be understated or undervalued! These STUDENT athletes deserve to be commended for their efforts

^ TRUTH! I salute you all for your amazing accomplishment! :salute:

CBJ released the info that the team posted the perfect score last semester and are no longer in jeopardy of a bowl ban.

A perfect score in SEC football is unbelievable by the way.

what a turn around! Just goes to show a good coach changes everything- not only on the field but off as well.

If you don't think the clearance of the program with the NCAA in regards to being able to go to a bowl in 2014 isn't a positive... you're insane.

If you don't think this is a plus to recruits with parents that give 2 craps about their kid attending a quality program isn't a positive... you're insane.

Too many try-hards trying hard and failing. Shut up and look at the positives. This doesn't make you a sheep. If anything, trying hard to be counter culture makes you nothing more than an ass.

Agree and Second.

This type of S*** is all over this board and it is counter cultural. Winner here is gonna be CBJ and staff.

It's one thing to question a coaching decision in a game or two, but it is another to take an accomplishment like this and spew garbage and negativity at it.

Problem is that it is not trolls doing it, instead it is some longtime posters doing it.

Beyond the Half full half empty concept.

Volnation is a great place but the negativity is getting old.

I didn't complain; I said it was a good thing.

The point I made is that top recruits don't care about APR scores, which they don't. Nor do the vast majority of fans, unless there's an NCAA cloud.

our starting QB on Saturday could have easily attended either of those

And yet he came here, despite our recent bad APR scores. Illustrates my point.

Best APR scores (football):
Northwestern: 996
Boise State: 993
Duke: 989
Clemson: 985
Wisconsin: 985
Georgia Tech: 983
Boston College: 982
Missouri: 982
Ohio State: 982
Rice: 979

Where is this 1000 of which you speak?

I'm late to the thread, but it was for the SEMESTER.... And upped there apr to 960 I believe

OK, but if you are a parent of a student athlete that has maturity and intellegence to look at all aspects of a program, including academics, then the APR doesn't really matter to you. Your kid is going to go to class and get his degree. If UT recruits the kids you describe, their APR should be 1000.

The APR isn't focussing on the Josh Dobbs of the world. It's for the borderline student athletes. Here is what the APR is:

Each student-athlete earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible. A team’s total points are divided by points possible and multiplied by 1,000 to produce the team’s APR.

Isn't Dobbs in Aerospace Engineering? Do you really see him being academically ineligible during his playing time?

Funny...I'm doing all of those. What did I say that was incorrect?

I'm not knocking the accomplishment. I just think people don't understand exactly what the APR is.

I would take 85 Josh Dobbs type of players right now, and I would bet that team would win.

You understand what would happen if we didn't improve the APR correct?

Agree 100%. This news is huge and Butch said other schools were using this against us. How in the world a real Vol fan could in anyway find something bad to say....is like you said "insane." Big news....and it just keeps coming under this coach.

Yes...alot of them do care. And a big yes to their parents do care. I also disagree that the vast majority of fans care. It is a reflection of our university....and shouldn't we all want to be painted in a positive light? Sorry, but I just don't get anyone saying anything....but this is just great news.
