Penn State, Texas, BYU, and Indiana have 0 quality wins between them.
I'm hoping OSU takes care of Indiana on 11/23 in a big way. If that is the case, IU will drop like Miami did as they will have 0 quality wins and a loss. BYU's biggest remaining challenge will also be on 11/23 when they play at Arizona State. Minnesota is the best team PSU has to face. If OSU wins out it will be a rematch between them and Oregon in the B1G championship game.
Given schedules - OSU, Oregon and PSU, unless Minnesota pulls an upset are in the playoffs. IU was pushed up to protect them - a close loss to OSU and there is no doubt the committee will try to keep them high enough, so they remain in. IU is this year's "feel good story".
For us to make the playoffs the following must happen:
- We must be at least the 4th highest ranked SEC team.
- We must be no lower than 11 coupled with NO upsets in the conference championship games.
- If there are upsets in the conference championship games we need to be in the top 10 and hope for only one upset in the Big 12 or ACC game.
- It would also help if Notre Dame would lose another one, but if they are really a top 10 team, they will beat the teams they have left.
- If we win out and make the SEC championship game - the worst we could be is a 2 loss team and we
should make the playoffs. The committee would completely invalidate their reputation if they selected a 2 loss SEC team that did not make their conference championship game.
