'24 Vols Transfer Offers

There are some potential difference makers out there, and the fact we don't appear to be throwing our hat in the ring is puzzling. Especially when it shows other SEC teams showing interest. Auburn, Ole Miss, and a few other SEC schools seem to be particularly active. Our defense desperately needs playmakers.

Numbers are an issue. Lot of seniors have not made known plans. Cant take a guy if concerned may not have a spot. Positions matter also.

They have to be cautious. Very, very tight numbers.

What’s the latest with Stars? Should we expect good news or will it be a dog fight?
ND guy? They have a shot but they like the SE Louisiana guy also. Probably why they rejected Joly. Won't take both the SE la and ND. Want a HS kid to go with portal.

After reading didn't sound clear

With a list of Washington, OU and UT, why would you not be excited to get this kid?
Isn’t he the #1 Tight end in the portal? I haven’t kept up and just read Joly not taking a visit. Does that mean we think we this kid will commit? I have a bit of BVS and think he will go to Washington or Oklahoma.

Absolutely, I just thought with the staff telling Joly not to visit I figured this guy was ready to commit, was hoping for a drama free recruitment lol.

I'm not the guy to ask, but based on everything I've read, our staff feels he's a better fit for what we want than Joly. I interpret that to be that he will block and be adequate as a receiver at TE. Kinda like Fant perhaps.

I’m just a fan but I think TN could utilize the tight end position more in passing game.

Why not tell the current players they need to make a decision so the coaches can act? Make the players aware they are potentially hurting our program through indecision, because if they decide to leave later, a lot of good players will already be off the board.

Not sure the staff has pushed that at this point. Trying to get some to stay.
Why is the focus almost entirely on offense? Is it because Heupel is an offensive minded coach? We need to upgrade the defense. A TE, a WR, couple of OL... I get those are needs, but defensive secondary is a huge need as well.

Maybe Heupel is ok with the current process? Maybe he would prefer many of them stay rather than pursuing portal players? They know the systems.

Cant answer. Just can speculate.

I've said before my sense is Heupel is very careful with the kind of players he takes from portal. Has certain expectations.

LWS: In your opinion, does our program have too much player/seniority/staff loyalty at this point to regularly compete for championships in the current cuthroat environment of major college football?

My only guess would be they feel differently than your statement. If the emphasis is offense they must project that as biggest need.

They don't see things the same way as we fans do.

Not against good players staying, but if they drag their feet and decide to leave anyway, it hurts the program if we've missed ot on guys we might have been interested in had we known they were leaving.

I believe he is very loyal. To players and staff. Is that a successful approach? Time will tell.

What I know about competing for championships is that the Tennessee talent level needs to be greatly improved. To compete with Georgia and Alabama, you need to consistently bring in the level talent they do. You won't get it in the portal. Has to be classes. Year after year.

If you can get a few NFL level players with a QB who has elite level season (last year for example) you might have a 10 win season. But won't be consistent in competing at top level. Need studs.

That is going to be harder with Texas and Oklahoma coming in.

So whatever needs to happen to get that level talent he needs to figure out soon. Tennessee fans lack the patience for a middle of the league type program. I've seen more grumbles regarding him this fall. Next season likely won't be as good as this season.
