Michigan has 10 in the two deep and Washington has 11 in the two deep. FSU has 19 in the two deep. LSU has 13 in the two deep. It’s interesting that fans want to be like ole miss and Auburn, burning up the transfer portal instead of like the current champions who build mostly through recruiting
If this team only wins 8 against that schedule, there will be meltdowns. Oklahoma, Alabama, and Georgia are the only excusable losses, and many expect UT to pull off one of those. If this team loses to Florida or Arkansas or Kentucky or Miss State, something has gone terribly wrong.Didn't predict. Speculated.
Breaking in new QB but if they can convince a ton of seniors back, would help a ton to match 8.
The more new bodies they have to play, the less likely they are more successful. Jmo
Those guys cherry pick in the portal too. But that’s not a recipe for long term success.Michigan has 10 in the two deep and Washington has 11 in the two deep. FSU has 19 in the two deep. LSU has 13 in the two deep.
You make a fair argument, but it all depends on you who you get or can get. How hard you attack the portal.
I believe he is very loyal. To players and staff. Is that a successful approach? Time will tell.
What I know about competing for championships is that the Tennessee talent level needs to be greatly improved. To compete with Georgia and Alabama, you need to consistently bring in the level talent they do. You won't get it in the portal. Has to be classes. Year after year.
If you can get a few NFL level players with a QB who has elite level season (last year for example) you might have a 10 win season. But won't be consistent in competing at top level. Need studs.
That is going to be harder with Texas and Oklahoma coming in.
So whatever needs to happen to get that level talent he needs to figure out soon. Tennessee fans lack the patience for a middle of the league type program. I've seen more grumbles regarding him this fall. Next season likely won't be as good as this season.

For sure but also Vols will be favored in 9 games next season. Win the ones you’re supposed to and one you’re not and boom 10 wins.
Not saying we should expect it or anything. But the path isn’t insurmountable.
This is just my hot take…. I think Heupel is in a conundrum with the current landscape of CFB and I think that’s going to land us as a middle of the pack SEC team. He is not cut-throat to just push players to the TP and flip the weak position groups to get the best players possible to ultimately compete year after year for NCs. Do not read that for what it’s not. I am in no way advocating for a Deion-like flip of the entire roster, that’s way off the spectrum of acceptable. But I think with Heupel’s faith he is a “developer” of young men and will have a tougher time adapting to the current realities of CFB and what it takes to truly compete at the upper echelon year after year. There may be a flash in the pan year like last year but I think this is a middle of the pack (8-4 avg) SEC staff/team year in and year out. It’s a matter of perspective really. Not really calling it right or wrong. I appreciate that CJH wants to invest in the the same young men for 3-5 years for the betterment of the player (both on and off the field) but that tends to (not always) lessen the talent/competition level. He certainly has time to adapt but I don’t envy these coaches in this current landscape of “win now or else” and trying to invest in young men to make a difference in their lives. College sports as I came to love it is no more and it saddens me that the dollar is almighty.I believe he is very loyal. To players and staff. Is that a successful approach? Time will tell.

That's my pick, too. Unless we score some huge contributors in the portal at positions of real need(WR, TE, DB), the schedule will likely be too stiff for much more than 7 wins. We'll face our annual gauntlet and if injuries bite us again, it could be a long, tough season. You’re predicting us to go 7-5 next season? Are you insane? Lmao
I see 7-5 as well next year. That's my pick, too. I kinda feel sorry for the kid. The expectations are just through the roof with him. Not sure any freshman would be able to meet them.I would like to see how rosters shake out before guessing at how many favorites we are. One thing I know, fans have super expectations for Nico. Hope they are right. I've not seen enough of him in SEC ball to draw any expectations yet.
Might be better overall with the roster, but not the record. To repeat, unless we kill it in the portal, we will likely be depending on a lot of young players in critical spots. This league is a meat grinder and sometimes treats youth with malice.I actually think we will be better next yr. There wasn’t a single fun or exciting thing ab this yrs team the entire yr. It was a boring watch from start to finish.
I think we beat Oklahoma next year. They are cracking in a new QB as well.Might be better overall with the roster, but not the record. Word is Dingle got married to a progressive minded woman, Cheryl Berry.TE Jordan Dingle from Kensucky just entered the portal. Kensucky fans are upset about it.
For that reason alone I hope we pursue him.
