We barely played our freshmen DBs. What's the backup plan if they're not ready? What about depth? You bring in guys who can compete and push the young talent to improve. It is possible that the disconnect between you and the coaches goals is the current players. I would offer a hypothesis that the issue you are frustrated with staff over is not who they target outside the team, but how they protect inside the team.
We seem to lose less players than other teams. The DB's for example all seem to have been to make room for guys we have. Why would you then bring in portal guys that could create the same friction? Many of rhe portal guys us fans would most like to see us target we have good players at. Nolan is one, qb which is half of what KY picked up is another.
Could we use a backup to Nico? Sure, but is that a portal guy that wants to play now? No...
Areas we seem to be willing to pursue some talent:
TE, WR, (outside only), interior OL, interior DL.
You still don’t want good you recruited to leave early in their tenure. Both of those Te aren’t coming together, they want to be the guy on their respective teams. I get that y’all want the best team possible but sometimes too many people think this is fantasy land or a video game. Let it play out and then tell the coaches how they shoulda done itThe staff lately has been making it really hard for me to get behind their recruiting tactics, at one of our biggest needs we are pursuing 2 fcs dbs, one position of need we are only pursuing one guy, and another we are being extremely picky because we dont want to hurt the one guy’s feelings because he practices good?
Your opinion doesn't matter; only the coaches' opinion matters. We barely played our freshmen DBs. What's the backup plan if they're not ready? What about depth? You bring in guys who can compete and push the young talent to improve.
We're pursuing talent at WR and TE. Still waiting for us to pursue talent at interior OL and DL
Also, it may be that the backup plan is to take talented transfers from lower level schools who looks good and project to push our current players, but also would transfer for a chance to start at UT. As opposed to talented players at big schools whose primary reason for transferring would be money and guaranteed starting status. From what we're seeing, that looks like what we're seeing from the staff on the DBs.We barely played our freshmen DBs. What's the backup plan if they're not ready? What about depth? We are in on and maybe leading on CB Sensabaugh. We barely played our freshmen DBs. What's the backup plan if they're not ready? What about depth? You bring in guys who can compete and push the young talent to improve.

We will get to see our CBs in the bowl and if that looks bad they could still potentially try and lure someone into the portal last minute. Not likely, but could give them coverage with those guys if they did.
OL - Remington Strickland (also offered by LSU) and we have hinted Tate. Tate could be far-fetched, but people say they want big fish.
DL - Marley Cook (also offered by OSU)
All that is speculation on here. The staff lately has been making it really hard for me to get behind their recruiting tactics, at one of our biggest needs we are pursuing 2 fcs dbs, one position of need we are only pursuing one guy, and another we are being extremely picky because we dont want to hurt the one guy’s feelings because he practices good?
I truly don’t understand this. People in all sports crave a majority “older” group for maturity and experience. But when they aren’t first round picks, we were too loyal to them? Who would you have replaced in our secondary this year with younger guys? You find a secondary that plays a ton of young guys, freshman, Rfresh and sophomores and I bet you find a bad defense/team.I feel like this was a whiff by the staff. Too loyal to the older guys now the younger group doesn’t have as much experience as they could have.
So you think they told jolly. The SS’s from Jolly telling a fan they turned him down because they thought they had the ND transfer in the bag was posted on twitter

PFF isn't the end-all-be-all, but McCoy's 64.8 coverage grade really isn't great. Also gave up 9 YPA on 47 targets.I really want McCoy from Oregon St. and that Harris kid from Idaho.
Rest of the portal guys don’t impress me too much. Johnson and Green would be on my list as well.
@MetalVolunteer yall go get Jemod McCoy. i see that he follows Vols IG page. Get on it!!
Being a freshmen, I overlooked that.PFF isn't the end-all-be-all, but McCoy's 64.8 coverage grade really isn't great. Also gave up 9 YPA on 47 targets.
Also while looking around, Slaughter was targeted 29 times and on those targets QBs went 24/29 (83%), 422 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, with a 153.2 NFL rating. Yikes. 6th on the team in targets and #1 in our secondary in yards allowed.
For contrast, Hadden had more targets and allowed less than 100 yards lol.
