Brazzell and Thornton are deep threats.

Squirrel can also be a deep threat when he has guys on the outside that command attention.
Thornton hasn't shown me anything. No way I count on him "finding his game" in year 1 of the Nico era. You just cannot pin your hopes on a guy like that. Fools gold. At this point, it's just as likely he is what he is and a mistake vs being a real threat in this offense. It's like continuing to think Milton was going to have the light come on and he'd become the next great thing in college football. No. You have to get another difference maker to pair with Brazzell. McCoy is a nice blocker/possession receiver but not a guy who will challenge you deep. Squirrel is a nice story, but again, he's not a guy who DC's will fret over in game planning. If we can't lure another burner from the portal, we'd better pray that we've struck gold with Matthews and/or Staley and that they're both very, very quick studies. Of course, if we don't upgrade at the OL, Nico won't need to be worrying about the deep ball because he won't have the time to let the WRs get deep.

We should send this to Heupel so he's aware.

You poor soul

Not that it matters what I think, but the most “unproven” position groups for UT football are OL and DB. Coaches may really like some of the younger guys instead of transfer guys. I think UT has depth at OL, and some solid guys recruited this year. Just not sure there’s a “Darnell Wright/Trey Smith type dude” on the roster yet. Really hope player development changes that. The amount of DB’s we’ve lost to the transfer portal and draft declarations makes me wonder if CWM is retiring/new role with UT and a new DB coach is on the way and Heup wants his input on transfer DB’s they are considering. Purely speculation.

Inspired me to add the NegaVol anthem.

And a ONE and a TWO…..

Gloom despair and agony on me……

Deep dark depression excessive misery…..

If it weren’t for VOL luck I’d have no luck at all…

Gloom despair and agony on me…….

We still have Nathan Leacock and Mike Matthews will be dynamic day one imo

Disagree with most of this. Thorton showed he was getting it before his injury. You can say he didn’t show you anything but he did flash ability. The staff screwed up with him by putting him in the slot. Once he moved outside he started playing better.

You use conjecture way too much here. You don’t know if DCs fear Squirrell or not. Bru can absolutely challenge people deep. You are a very negative poster most of the time. I get it. But this post is ridiculous. The fact that @LittleVol (one of the biggest trolls) liked it says a lot.

We would be very, very lucky to get 400 yards from Mathews next year. The Receivers don’t just run routes. They have pre snap reads and it’s a lot to learn to Get on the field and with the limited substitutions I don’t see it happening.

We have upgraded the OL

Thornton has shown us something, you're choosing to ignore it because of his drops. He literally found his way the last three games he played in lolol. He will be a factor next year and you will be wrong.

Bru is a first round talent WR

Squirrel, when he has other good players around him is incredibly hard to stop.

We'll be fine.

I'm sure this isn't the right thread for it, but do we have a thread with a list of the guys that are transferring out.have committed?

Unless I'm misreading things, both appear to have multiple years left. Harris was a much more decorated HS prospect. Wonder what it is that they see in McMurray that has them focused on him? Maybe Harris has some issues that are red flags for this staff? Can't find much in the way of highlights for McMurray. I'm obviously missing something in the comparison of these two players.
Harris has more eligibility. He was a true freshman. McMurray was a red-shirt sophomore. I'd like to know what the coaches see in McMurray to covet him. Not sure I trust the evaluations of Banks and Martinez. I don't trust Martinez's coaching. Jury still out on Banks. My gut says Harris is a better get, but there's a reason I'm not getting paid millions to recruit and coach these kids. I'm just not sold on McMurray, personally.

Bru is a nice possession receiver, but he’s not a deep threat speedster. I highly doubt he’s a first rounder as well. He’s a very good and reliable college player that will help Nico. He’s coming off an injury.

Thornton is still an unknown and we’re hoping the light goes on for him. He’s coming off an injury.

White is also a nice SEC player but he’s not elite. He has a place in this offense but we still need a deep threat speedster to get the most out of this offense.

Maybe Matthews or Staley can contribute early but our staff has shown that they do not like to play freshmen. Maybe that will change in 2024.

I do expect that Nico will elevate the play of all our WRs. So if Thornton still doesn’t put it together he’ll get benched imo.

Bru is not a 1st round receiver

Bru is not a 1st round receiver

Yeah, he’s a 3rd or 4th round talent if he stays healthy and produces next year. He’s a great all-around college player and happy to have him though. I think the hope of our staff is that Brazzell is the real deal and can be that #1 guy for us, which would allow Bru to be more of a Swiss Army knife to plug and play where we need him.

You nailed it, there is a reason nobody chooses to pay you for your gut reaction to a scenario where you have very limited facts. It is valid to be, as you put it, curious what the facts are that you do not have access to. That is completely legitimate. But it is pretty foolish to lend any actual credence to those gut feelings that you are well aware are based on very limited facts and limited depth of knowledge of the situation.

My question/concern is how long it will take him to return to 100%?

The only thing I can think of is "fit". Not saying Harris is a problem, but I think this staff really looks beyond measurables and star ratings. Really think they want high quality/character types who will....don't shoot me...add to the culture. Plus Banks and McMurray know each other well so it's probably a comfort thing, too.
