Vols Will Be Ranked #1 in the Nation Come Monday

Miami isn’t nearly as bad as their record if you put much into KenPom.

He has them as one of the unluckiest teams in the country right now.
I can agree with that. Also, they play Clemson tomorrow, so that should give us another data point. The reality is that on any given night they can beat the Vols.

Agree to an extent. Think if before the season it’s a borderline dancing team I’d rather have the better SoS. But a team that “should” dance, I’m more than okay with an easier path to conference play. The cherry on top of both scenarios are the SEC is not a joke anymore.
It's been awhile since we were a "borderline" dancing team. 2020

Miami is ranked lower than Vanderbilt currently on kenpom. My biggest concern is over the last 2-3 years these Madison square garden games have produced vols worst offensive performances of the season.

Exactly. I believe that we have used a different brand of basketball, i.e. Spalding vs. Wilson, for the NYC games in the past. Historically, we have had some awful offensive performances up there under Barnes.

UT’s men’s sports are experiencing a major revival. Football team in playoffs ,
baseball national champs and basketball #1. Good times.
Basketball has been more than solid if not above average since 1998 (thanks to Kevin O’Neil and a bunch of in state talent staying home). 27 years, only 3 loosing seasons, and 17 NCAA births.
I will say the trajectory of the program, heck VOLS athletics, took a quantum leap the day they signed Coach Barnes. Plus adding AD White.

2024: #1 National Championship winning baseball team, #1 ranked basketball team, #6 ranked (hopefully higher after this weekend) football team. Has any other D1 school had this type of success in a single year?
I’m sure
Even in our own conference
Top of my head I’m pretty sure Florida, LSU, Bama, and maybe Texas have all had incredible teams in multiple major sports.

Some might think I’m exaggerating here, but Tony V is one of the big reasons. His preaching about loyalty and showing up to all of the other sports and having fun with the other coaching staffs has caused a snowball effect. He’s been hilarious on the sidelines during football season.
Sorry but Barnes is the one that started doing that. His was going to support other coaches during his first year here. Admiral, Grant, and Coach all went. Barnes change expectations and gave our athletic program a proven leader.

They have, but was it going on the same year? Bama basketball for a while wasn’t to be found. Texas football for long time…. Florida maybe during the basketball back to backs. Whether you’re right or wrong UT is in a special spot rt now

This is so true. Pre-season Miami was looking much tougher than now Miami, but I was at the NCAA tournament game in MSG in 2023 where we lost. It was a huge stinker and that place, for whatever reason, is not our friend.
I don't think Barnes would allow any overconfidence. Of course he can't control an off night shooting. Those will happen from time to time. We seem to be able to win a lot in those situations. I think we win by 10+

The only one I can think of that comes close is Louisville in 2013. They won the national title in MBB, won the Sugar Bowl, made the College World Series, and WBB made the national title game.

Buzz was such a terrible coach here. I've said it before, I give credit to Pearl for the life he gave to the program and what he did with his first time, but I also think it showed how awful Peterson was. Imo at least 2 of his 4 teams should have been NCAAT teams. Not to mention the numerous games he blew late. Remember Louisivlle? That was fun.

I kinda feel the same about Cuonzo in a way. I think all 3 of Martin's teams should have been NCAAT teams.

And no joke, I kinda had forgotten about Tyndall until remembering the jump from Martin to Barnes and I remembered "oh yeah, that guy".

Going back a bit further, Bruce Pearl painted his chest orange for Pat, then Pat dressed up like a cheerleader and sang Rocky Top at one of the men’s games. You can’t say enough about having that kind of mutual support being part of your culture.

Feels good to be leading the country in FG% heading to MSG. Having a post game when the threes aren’t falling is a good way to avoid those “first team to 50, wins” sorts of games.

While his teams were undisciplined, Jerry Green coached that 1997-98 team and he made the tournament every year he was there. He has to get some credit.

Buzzball was so hard to watch. Teams would get in the paint on us and score at will while we couldn’t get a shot inside the FT line.
