Vols Will Shock The Recruiting World

Ahmad Dixon-Coaches thought he was going to be a Vol for most of the fall. He fell in love with Tennessee during his visit. The key would've been a return visit with the understanding that he would commit. However the return visit never happened and the coaches, while still pursuing him, are looking elsewhere for help in the secondary. He believes that Dixon will end up in Tuscaloosa.

No...

we will pull off the unexpected recruiting trifecta. Scout is reporting that we have a great shot at the Texas trio of Seastrunk, Dixon and Nelson. Im calling my shot and saying we land all three on NSD. I dont care what happens at any of the all star games. Watch this go down when it counts.

Well tonight was a good start.....

Okay, I didn't want to start another thread to ask these questions so I guess this is as good a place as any. If no one decommits and everyone qualifies, that means we can only sign five more kids, right? Hopefully one of those is Chaz Green, and Lemonier would be a nice addition as well. If that happens, that's three spots left. Who de we go after then? Any idea if the coaches are encouraging any of the current commits to look elsewhere? Could we be looking to grey-shirt toward next year and can we do that under the current rules? Sorry for the chaotic post in advance, but thought I'd get all the questions I have out of the way.

The consensus seems to be that, if space is needed, Ralph Williams and Delvin Jones could be asked to look somewhere else. Beyond Green, we will definitely close with at least a couple more lineman.

Really? I don't see that happening. Williams? Yes. But I have a hard time believing Jones will be asked to move on. He's the only shot we have at a TE right now, and we NEED a TE.

I didn't want to start my own thread but has anyone thought about how much of the talent across the country is centralizing in the SEC. With PC leaving USC, there isn't really a prominent power at the top of their game. Ohio St. has declined somewhat (getting slaughtered in BCS games/by SEC teams) although the win over Oregon should treat them well. Also, Oregon appears to be on the rise. Texas, obviously, but they take mostly in-state kids. Other than that, there isn't much out there. The SEC is getting more and more loaded. Look at the rivals rankings for classes. This is bad for the Vandys of the world, I mean really bad, but we have a lot of quality football to look forward to. The SEC is monopolizing college football, and it's getting to where it won't just be one or two SEC teams.

I was just looking at several teams' commit lists, and I'm surprised at how teams like us have so many out-of-state guys. Then, you take a look at say, Va Tech, and all but about 3 of their commits are from in state. The guys who aren't are from places like DC and Maryland.

I think it's telling.

Look at Texas and their recruiting lists since 2003. Those lucky SOBs only take like 1 out-of-state player a class.

Oh geez. 1951 & 1998 Champions. That's 47 years, so I can expect the next one in 2045?:cray::cray::cray:

Dixon is already on board and Nelson is a viable prospect but we have no chance for Seastrunk... 2 outta 3 ain't bad.

Yeah, it says that there's a crap-load of talent in Virginia
and while schools like us, Alabama and UF focus on Texas, California and Florida recruits, Virginia Tech is cleaning up and you can bet they love the fact that their state's players are slidin' by under the radar.

Northern Virginia is usually loaded with good players.

Compared to what??? NOVA is relatively weak talent-wise. I grew up there before coming to UT - Ryan Williams is about the only great player from there in college football now, and in the pros... I don't know of any! The hotbed of talent in the state is the tidewater area.
