How much of this could have been recovered from Afghanistan and sent to Poland for next to no cost to them? Instead of us charging an ally for some of these weapons, we could have given this ally what we essentially threw away to our alleged enemies. One consequence of Putin's demands and threatening behavior will be an increase in armaments among NATO nations. We see this happening already, with Poland on point, "The planned deal would include 250 Abrams main battle tanks, 250 short-range jamming systems, 26 combat recovery vehicles, almost 800 machines guns and more, a press release from the U.S. State Department said."
