War in Ukraine

Define help? We should absolutely discussing it with them. High level prisoner exchange? No. They are dumb. They are still our citizens
So they might be in a pickle. Many western countries consider mercenaries as unlawful combatants and thus not provided any POW protections. But yes we should try to recover them. And park their stupid asses at home and make it clear to stay put.

NATO might crush Russian forces in a battle and then lose by trying to occupy Russia. It would like trying to occupy and reform Afghanistan - except multiple times bigger and with far more extended logistics. Basically winning the battle and losing the war because Russia is huge and not controllable by an occupier.

That's right. Occupation would never work.....especially long term.

This is a clown show response. Liberals continue to show how big of a joke they are. You cannot even see how deadly your party is to the republic. You guys keep talking about democracy like it’s a good thing. You are anti Russia. Great. So are many people. But you are pro-China which is just as bad.

I never said we are too rough on Russia. It’s just the ridiculous sanctions are hurting us here at home. Meanwhile Russia is making money hand over fist. But hey keep on supporting the party that wants to destroy the economy, kill babies and normalize child abuse.

"You keep talking about democracy like it's a good thing."

Why yes, I do.

And don't call me or liberals pro-China. That's crap. My prior postings address the Chinese and their racially based world-view..

Lucky to be alive. I hope our government doesnt do anything to help them.
They haven't done anything illegal, immoral, or criminal. Prisoners of war? Nope. According to Russia there is no war. I assume they were taken inside Ukraine where Russia has no legal authority. The US should do all we can to secure their release.

Saudis, UAE Refuse To Take Biden's Calls To Discuss Ukraine Situation, Talk To Putin Instead | ZeroHedge

First, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro declined to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Then, India followed suit - as the Modi government attempted to balance its historic ties with Moscow and its strategic partnership with Washington.

Now, Saudi and UAE leaders are refusing to take Biden's calls as the US president tries to contain surging oil prices, according to the Wall Street Journal, which adds that the Persian Gulf monarchies have signaled "they won’t help ease surging oil prices unless Washington supports them in Yemen, elsewhere."
Biden Downplays Plans To Meet With Crown Prince MbS, Saudis Immediately Contradict Him | ZeroHedge

"...From the positions they now hold, Ukraine is blasting artillery into Russian positions near Kherson airport. But even more telling, Ukraine is now striking positions all the way across the river (those flame icons on the lower right)—presumably counterbattery fire at Russian positions way over there.

Related to those long-distance shots are reports that the Ukrainian forces fighting at Stanislav include newly trained forces driving freshly donated Polish T72 tanks, U.S. M113 armored carriers, and a variety of new infantry fighting vehicles. These forces are doing well as the facing troops are reported to be conscripts sent from Luhansk. In some reports, Ukraine has now cut off Russian forces at Stanislav and neighboring Shyroka Balka, so look for potential change of control along the coast in the next day.

The three critical points in this area outside of Kherson itself, are Kyselivka, where Ukraine has been fighting for over a day; Tomyna Balka; and the area right around the airport and Chornobaivka, which Russia has reportedly fortified to withstand a Ukrainian assault.

How much has changed here? A week ago, this whole map—with the exception of a small area reaching out toward Oleksandrivsk—would have been red. The gains around Kherson aren’t spectacular … because they’re not Kherson. But they are significant, and all indications are that Ukraine is still moving forward."

Anyone still arguing Russia isnt winning the economic war?

It's comical to listen to your Bizarro world drivel.

Per Russia's own biggest bank:

Russian Economy Faces 10 Years of Recession Without Reforms – Sberbank CEO

“If nothing is done in the current situation, then… the return of Russia’s economy to the level of 2021 could take about 10 years,” Sberbank CEO Herman Gref said.

Under its so-called “inertia” scenario, Sberbank forecasts Russia’s GDP to fall by 7% in 2022 and 10.3% in 2023 compared with 2021, when it grew by 4.7% to $1.77 trillion.

Help as being pressure to get them out, or any type of concessions.

Why? They got themselves involved in a land war in Asia. That is precisely the type of thing we need to stay out of. They werent tourists caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or in jail for taking a bible into North Korea. They werent unfairly targeted because they were Americans. Thet werent there on official American business.

Now if the help was limited to giving them a ride back to the states after they get released I would be fine with that. Or just coordinating the logistics of their release, or housing them in an embassy while things were sorted out, again after their release.

I would not spend one iota of political will or effort on them. They made their beds, now they can lie in them.

Hell no. They jumped into the middle of a series of running battles no matter what russia calls it. They made their choice and need to live with the consquences. They werent helping America, why should America help them? We going to bail out every American merc that gets grabbed up in some 'stan?

They can end up in Gulag Gitmo since we have plenty of not-POWs there.

I agree. I certainly respect someone that put their beliefs into action here and went and did what they believed was right.

That said, you were on your own.
